MODEL 70 TRIGGER QUESTION?

jonbearman

I live in new york state, how unfortunate !
Has anyone ever seen a jewel trigger for a model 70 Winchester? Are they a good trigger and what should one cost? I have a line on one but want to be sure this is the way to go. Thanks to anyone that can help.

I have one on my winchester . Very nice trigger I paid 100 for mine. Don't know what they are worth.

This place says they have two in stock, $256

The only way I can get it is to buy the barreled receiver but it is in 308 norma magnum which scares my shoulder. They have another in 308 win so maybe I will buy both and combine the parts I need to finish my project. It would be about 900.00 for both guns to buy right now. I hope it is worth it. They are both former sling guns drilled and tapped for peep sights. I just hope it isn't a loosing proposition. What do you guys think. I will end up with 3 in the end but this is becoming my budget blown.LOL

Can't go wrong with a Jewell.

What exactly is your plan for this project?

Hey Jon, about 10 years ago, I had a Win Mod. 70 that sported a Jewell trigger. It used to be a Laredo in 22-250 but I re-barreled to 7mm-08. I used it as a "Deer Stand Gun".. The trigger was no different than any other Jewell. I don't know what they would cost now, however, if you can get one, GET IT!

Jon, Make sure the Winchesters bolt mounted Safety works.

On most Winchester Jewell installations the cocking piece needs modification to get the

Safety to work properly.

A great trigger when properly installed but be cautious if you need a functional Safety.

Steve

They are great triggers, but fitting one to an M-70 is not a drop in - and not for the faint of heart.

I bought a used Jewell several years ago for a push-feed (mid-'70s model) M70 that I had re-barreled for 6 Dasher. Had no problems with safety function on this particular action, but did have to do some stock inletting & trigger guard machining to get it to fit. Well worth the work though - love the Jewells on all my rifles that have them.

I still see them advertised in some of my jobber/wholesaler supply catalogs, so am fairly sure Jewell is still making them.

Anybody installed the Jewell in an FN SPR/PBR? I have an SPR with old style M70 trigger, and a PBR w/MOA trigger, and thinking of installing a Jewell in either or both. Any hands on experience would be appreciated.

I have several pre 64 model 70 Winchester rifles with Jewel triggers. They are great triggers and easily adjusted. I paid 245. for one and 190. for the other both were new.
