Missing hunters

I’m not sure how many have caught this story. A couple young men were bow hunting for elk in the higher peak area right above where I live. They were last seen a week ago. People started searching for them on Saturday, after they hadn’t checked in with family. Their bodies were found today, but no info yet on what happened. This was along the Colorado and New Mexico state line above Chama NM.

The town of Chama, NM is at nearly 8000 ft elevation itself. I would imagine the surrounding peaks would be at 10,000 ft plus. Even in September, those types of elevation get very cold at night. Very sad that these young men were not prepared for what was to come. Rip.

Yes, Chama is close to 8000’. The high peaks are just over 12,000’. The highway crossing the mountains gets a little over 10,000’. Their vehicle was probably about 10,500’.
