missing bolt headspace ??

I found a remington 700 cp for sale that is brand new but missing the bolt. What are the chances of buying it and getting a new SA bolt and it headspacing correctly to the new bolt?? Anyone ever tried this?

About 1 in 3 for it falling within headspace tolerance. If not in tolerance, either a slightly thicker recoil lug or a reamer could solve the problem and still keep the barrel in the same place vs. the receiver.

If your serial number prefix is RR or RAR with a similar time frame bolt from Remington, 90% will headspace no problem.

I put a takeoff Remington barrel on a new Remington receiver, bought 3 recoil lugs from PGT all just a few thousands different then the next. It head spaced on the first one I tried. And not with a case and tape with real head space gages.

Remington, it’s my understanding, used selective bolts to set final headspace. Stole a photo from another gunsmithing sub forum denoting. I have never actually measured any to compare and I have all 3 types.
