Miss timed muzzle brake??

So a couple years back I had a smith who does have a specialty with a certain old receiver, barrel and chamber one for me. Also had a 5 port muzzle brake installed , and scope holes fixed at the same time. Cost me $1300 all said and done.
After a move, bought a house , that was misrepresented with massive issues that was passed by a home inspector, and surgery, I'm now getting around to bedding and finishing the stock, as well as finishing the fitting, and finish on the metal. I noticed that the brake is over timed somewhere between 5 and 10 degrees, when viewed from the muzzle. It's 3 years down the road now. What should I do??

Oh and by the way I'm headed back for another go round of surgery to see if they can get it right this time.

Show a pic of it. If you never used it since you got it then get ahold of the guy who did it and see what he says.

I haven’t used timed brakes in many years as the great amount of self timing brakes out now is a much easier and better option now. You can take them on and off easily for cleaning. I like the PVA Jet Blast and Jet 4 brakes.

It won't hurt anything. I've got a MBM 4 port on my wife's kimber lightweight 7/08 with a pencil thin barrel and it sets just to the offside. It still shoots 1/2 MOA.

Gunsmith said it's pretty tough to get them dead nuts on pencil thin barrels because theres just not enough meat on the barrel. All my other rifles he had no issues getting them straight.

I prefer the timed brakes because they're streamline with the barrel, unlike self timed brakes with that ugly nut job on the end. Just a lot more aesthetically pleasing to me. I can take them off and on with a simple twist of my hand also if needed.

I also have one that is slightly off. Hasnt bothered me in any way. Shoots good and doesnt seem to move in any odd direction lol

It's an MBM 5 port. Doing a search I found a blurb from Jerry Miculek, installs them canted to the right as he feels it helps with right hand shooters? I didn't see where cant was defined from point of view, so maybe his is opposite mine. Dunno, but was rather bummed out when I discovered it , as it wasn't mentioned by the smith. This barrel is 1.250 to .950 at 28". so plenty to work with. I suspect the only real impact maybe people to my left getting smashed by debris. The notches in the muzzle are noticeably canted, so it looks bad.

Can you post a picture?

As mentioned it won’t really effect accuracy but as you mentioned if too much the blast will effect the dirt and dust cloud if shot prone.

Have you considered using a shim to solve your timing problem. This is common place when affixing muzzle breaks as well as QD mounts for suppressors. You can buy a set of shims (varying thicknesses) based on the thread diameter.

Shim it. Also don’t torque down on it either. Use a liberal amount of red loctite to lock it in place. Torquing muzzle devices causes distortion at the muzzle and that’s not a good place to distort the barrel.

Shimming will work but if it’s supposed to be a seamless brake to barrel fit then it will leave a gap. Still waiting to see a pic to see what may work for him.
