Is Dan Pohlabel still making these diffusers? If anyone has a link to his website please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Here is some information that was on F Class John’s site about a year ago when he demonstrated the “Mirage Buster” which is a variable aperture device much like a camera lens.
I have one and it works as the video shows…

If your interested in purchasing a Mirage Buster, please verify you have space between the barrel and centerline of the scope. See http://www.mprime.com/MirageBuster/MB1.htm. Next please get on the waiting list by emailing vise27@gmail.com.

You can easily make your on. Purchase a lens cap/s from a camera store, Amazon, etc. Drill a small hole in the center, use a protractor to mark the diameter you want then drill, Dremel or file to your line. You can make several with different diameter openings to best match the condition.

If anyone is interested in making their own I’ll send two objective caps only shipped for $17 per pair instead of the usual $15 because the objective cap costs more than the eyepiece cap. Please specify which “TYPE” and that you’re requesting TWO objective caps. Several shooters were doing this at the KY State 100&200 UBR match recently.

Steve Z and you other guys, I know you use these things. Do they really help with shooting through mirage?
Frankly, it darkens the image a bit but I have never been able to see a discernible difference in mirage, with vs without. Just my 2 cents. Not saying someone else can't see an improvement. I can't, and I've tried many times by just moving the diffuser by hand in front of the objective lens..YMMV though.

I can also tell you a quick and dirty tool is a pool noodle or pipe cover inserted into a sunshade. I believe I show it later in this video (it's old but still relevant info)

As for efficacy I think some depends on the actual scope, your eyes and conditions but yeah I probably know just as many people who find they work as they don't. Here's a comparison I did with and without that shows the effects. Even with all this, for me personally I will say there's certain conditions where the effect are negligible but I still use them all the time.

Just curious, has anyone tried a polarizing filter to help reduce mirage?
It's been a while. I've got a polarized lense for a Leupold around here somewhere. It wasn't cheap but I don't recall it helping much with mirage, fwiw. It screwed onto the eyepiece end though. Always wondered if it mattered which end would be most beneficial, if any difference.

Is this of any help? I have one and the ability to be able to adjust the amount of light dampening is useful… Yes, all mirage diffusers will reduce the amount of light coming into the scope… I have one for a Khales and it just drove me crazy and was a pain to put on and off… This one just attaches with magnets once the mounting ring is on your scope and easily is removed when not needed.
It is the one that FC John reviewed and if you follow the link on that video you will come to this information about contacting the builder.
