Mini-Palma F-class. Too easy?

Good shooting. That is a sling target (100 yard smallbore).
So to be fair, all the scoring rings should be half of that. Since you are shooting off rest and bags (I am guessing a bench too).

Thanks, I was hoping for some first hand experience.
When you say 1/3 clean is your field mostly serious, mostly casual, 1/2 and 1/2?
Would your F shooters welcome an f-sized target or resist it?

Anybody done 45x?

yes, I've seen it several 45x cleans. Its really impressive to see such tight groups, but the guys are shooting f-open type .22 rifles - massive front and rear rests, big scopes, etc and they're using tuned ammo from the lapua test center. The competition has been reduced to $$$$'s. I think that 3/4 of the competitors are serious, but only a portion has the ability to spend a lot on the game, which sucks for the serious competitor that can't keep up with the equipment and ammo costs.

Would they accept a f-sized target? ***maybe*** I think the challenge of using an f-class sized target is they'd be really hard to score with 15 shots. If f-class is going to continue shooting at 100 yards, it may be time to change the game and use a target with 3 bulls for each 15 shot string so that they could be scored more easily.

I was joking with a friend the other day - we postulated what would happen with the competition if we moved to parking lot a mile up the road from the range - if you can walk your equipment to the line, then you can shoot it!

I have proposed an F-class target for minipalma with 5 shot per bull. should be easier to score. Smallbore committee has to approve first.

Could I have some details to make my own practice version?

Same rings with a new f-class x?

Full size black or reduced?

Walt,
What are the dimensions?/Distances shot?
Larry, The targets are reduced from 800, 900 and 1000 yea al fired at 100 yards. Each target is a four bull target with 1 sighter bull and three record bulls, 5 shots per bull. 800 - x = .5, 10 = 1.0, 900 - x = .45, 10 = .9, 1000 - x = .4, 10 = .8

I'm a little late to the party here, are these targets available yet? I run a mini palma postal shoot at our club, and would love to add these to the mix.
Thanks, Kevin

Interesting. The Mini-Palma targets the NRA has as official targets seem almost exactly like the targets somebody designed back over on the old Delphi forum circa 1999/2000.

Was actually more fun shooting it at Ben Avery at 100, 150 & 200 yards after the Palma tryouts in '98.

The target Walt described isn't going to be that easy. With all the X rings 1/2" and less. There hasn't been very many cleans with 40 X's or any for that matter on the current A 33 target (could be wrong). The A 33 target that smallbore F Class uses at 100 yards has a 1" 10 ring with anything not cutting through the ring is an X. The 22lr cartridge isn't that accurate at 100 yards. Close but doubtful you'll see many cleans.

We had our first MiniPalma yesterday and I shot a clean 450 35x well ahead of anybody else.
I was happy with my careful wind discipline but it was fairly easy to watch the flags and just shoot my condition.

I'm thrilled with the clean and the 'win' but I'm also wondering how much of an accomplishment it really is.

I had the only 'real' f-class set-up. Anshutz 64MPR, T-36, Sinclair bipod, Protektor bag
We had about 10 in f-class but after me it was all Savage, 9x on folding bipod type stuff with only a couple of serious shooters and a bunch of beginners or casual shooters.

Our serious shooters(several definitely better than me overall) with serious smallbore rifles mostly all shot sling.
High was somewhere around 440 20x.

Is the target just too easy for anybody serious about f-class?

There are new mini-palma targets coming-out next year for both slinging F-class. The F-class targets have an x-ring starting at .5" for reduced 800 yards and remainder of the rings similarly reduced in size. They will be in the Smallbore rifle rulesook when it finally gets posted. Should be more of a challenge.

Since my OP almost two full season ago I've posted 12 more 450's plus copious 448-9s so the sling targets are definitely too easy for an Annie on a sinclair bipod or rest. Any target is plenty tough when the wind gets frisky at 100 yards. ;)

But I'm still the ONLY one locally with a clean(mostly because most people are calling a ruger or savage 22 on a folding bipod or simple rest 'f-class')

I don't know if we'll start using the f-class targets or not.

You're talking a 2 inch 10 ring on the sling target. The Smallbore F Class 100 yard A 33 target is 1 inch for the 10 ring. The mini Palma for F Class are going to be smaller than that. If the committee approves the target Walt is talking about you would have to use it. If not no scores would count for anything. Where are you shooting these matches? Are you shooting the A 51 target at 50 yards and cleaning that with 2 targets and 40 shots? That would be a 400-40X's. The X ring is 4.096mm.

Fair point but we're shooting unsanctioned, we'll shoot what we as a group want to shoot :)

My average for sbr fc nra classification was definitely over 98% I think over 99%. You saw me shoot a 10x on an a33, after I put up the wrong target on the previous stage :(

I always calculate my mini-palma fc scores from the sling score and the number of x's. Usually 435-440 or so, high of 447. Number of x's is always a guess from a big hole after 15 shots, though.

We shoot 12 months, well enclosed on 3 sides but unheated firing line, if you get cabin fever come up to Rochester some time. If you come up I'll definitely put up the f-class targets!

I believe the Olympic shooters use that tiny little b*st*rd of a target OFFHAND ???

Correct.

The NRA A-50 (or 50M target) or the NRA A-51 (50M target reduced for 50 yards). You can use the NRA A-33, International Rifle 300M Target reduced for 100 yards, and the NRA C-2, International Rifle Target 300M reduced for 200 yards.

3 Position 3x40, 3 position 3x20 Standard Rifle, and 60 shot Prone are all fired on these targets. Tons of fun!
If you really want to learn some new 'words', try out International Air Rifle: 60 shots standing, and the '10' is a pencil dot @ 10 meters.

All of these are fired with iron sights only, no magnifiers in international competition, but a single lens is allowed in conventional competition.

I know that some clubs used to run a sanctioned 200 yd. smallbore prone match, which was fired @ 200 yards using a standard highpower target - someone correct me if I'm wrong...
