Milling slot in trigger guard

Other than taking the trigger guard to the 'smith or having a milling machine, what is the best way to mill a slot in the trigger guard for the trigger? Without adding spacers between the guard and stock, the guard is preventing the trigger shoe from being depressed.

What rifle , trigger and guard . Seems like somethings are a little off .
How much do you need ? Dang won't a dremel with a sanding drum on it work ? Something is a little off if you need a lot .

I stuck mine in the drill press vise...

it wiggled.

So I took some meat off the sides until I got it tight.

and drilled three liddle holes.

And then filed them together and made a slot.

It's Panda action, manners stock, jewell trigger, bat trigger guard. The bedding was a tad low. Will try dremel to the shoe.

How much material removal? I kinda like to go at things with a file. I have had much better results taking my time with hand tools. But if you need to take a lot off I would use a foredom tool.

Sure would be nice to practice on a cheap plastic Remington trigger guard.
I think you are wanting to cut a slot through the guard. I would drill holes at either end. Then use the small saw wheel in the dremel to connect the holes.
If it protrudes below the guard - shim the guard or grind the tip of the trigger off.

I've got an aluminum guard already slotted , I'll try to find today . If your in no rush And if it's the correct spacing I'll send it too you .
I used it in a Mauser with the action sitting deep in the stock .

i absolutely can not believe you do not have a milling machine (yet)!

Just re-bed the trigger guard .. Do nice work.
If you live near me I will do it for a beer and thank you...
He could easily buy a Rem 722 trigger guard under piece (?) it goes under the stamped guard above the wood . It'll act like a washer and raise the trig guard .
