Midway complaints

Well, it can't be any more of a beating than picking up a FA at Bass pro shops. They want your PH number to get you in the 'ready' line. what bullshit. then the guy taped my two small primer packages closed. I had to bite my tongue all the way through the transaction. I am 69 YO and my temper (already short) is going in the wrong direction. The bullshit of picking up a FA is over the top.

They do sometimes underprice an item on GunsIntl, but the aggravation in picking it up is getting the best of me. If I can do a face to face w a decent guy to buy or sell, that is absolutely the way to go, but that happens less and less often.

Several months ago they gave me a hard time because one ID had 'Blvd' and the paperwork said "Boulevard". I don't think I will give them any of my business, unless I have no other option. SMF!

Oh, and the prices of new FAs in the case were crazy high!! I bet the only folks that buy there, don't know any better. Super high prices. OK,,,, Thanks for letting me vent.

My last order from Midway was 500ct boxes of 22 rimfire ammo. They put the OE boxes in a bigger box with no packing material. The ammo in 500ct boxes were bulk, and one opened during shipping spilling half the contents in the bigger box. It wasn't the first time I'd gotten stuff from Midway like that but it was the last.

I recently retired from a company that shipped many thousands of packages a day. Shipping costs have more than doubled in recent years. UPS and FedEx compete for those orders. USPS doesn't really have to compete. With reduced costs, there are always going to be concessions. Think Smartpost and some of those other debacles.

If Midway (or any online retailer) did not use the 'second class' shipping methods, the costs would probably make you think twice about ordering anything less than a couple hundred dollars from them. Much like the Hazmat charges, you want to spread the cost out.

Many online retailers give you an option to pay for 'expedited' shipping. Amazon has made us want 2-3 day shipping on everything.

We in the first world are quite spoiled.

The posts from @PhilC and @kelbro bracket the problems from Midway and others. Personally, I have no quarrel with a supplier trying to find the lowest cost carrier. Rarely do I have to have something ASAP. It is puzzling how the same carrier may deliver quickly and then like molasses.

As an example, there are two orders en route to this address via UPS. The Starline order was placed ten days later than another supplier, but it's arriving three days earlier. Starline got on it and shipped rapidly while the other supplier took their sweet time and then apparently shipped "slow boat." Watching the tracking is confounding. Both used UPS ground. Go figure.

Where I get headaches, though, is Midway's lousy packaging. Nothing to do with the carrier whatsoever. It's a recurring complaint Midway won't fix. Slow boat I understand. Poor packaging, I don't. Midway surely can't claim they don't know about it. Either they don't care, or it's an economic (cheap labor) decision.

I was in Phoenix last week forgot my graco adjustable recoil pad. Midway had what I needed so I did next day delivery or whatever it’s called paid $20 bucks for that. I was at Ben Avery shooting a match the next day and UPS delivered it around 1500. So two thumbs from on Midway fast delivery. So if you want it now pay the extra 20 bucks and you will have it by 1800 the next day.

That's precisely why I shop elsewhere 90% of the time. I'm not concerend with slow shipping, but lousy packaging is simply inexcusable IMHO.

Ive been using Midway for a long time. But also use Midsouth ,Natchez, Grays and Brownells. Have very few complaints from any of them. I have noticed Midways shipping lately has been slower than usual. And they usually are a bit more expensive for certain items.

When I first started reloading around 10 years ago I found Midway and used them almost all the time. Then when they "upgraded" their shipping system in my opinion it went to crap. I remember ordering dies and getting them in a box with NO packing at all the the case the dies came in smashed. This happened a few times. Bullets would get smashed and be loose in the box with a few missing because they had fell through the sides of the folded box. I emailed them and never got a reply of any kind.

I started checking other places first. I love Midways website, Brownell has great service but their website is confusing at best. I went to Midway to find what I needed and then after I knew what I wanted I would first look on Amazon to see if they had it and if not do a Google search.

In the last year or so I am happy to say that I have been buying from Midway again. I like their free shipping over 100$ and I have not had any of the shipping problems anymore. There is usually paper in the box protecting whatever I had purchased. Their prices are sometimes more sometimes higher. When they have a sale its good.

As far as components I have found myself using www.ammoseak.com they do not sell anything but if you enter what you are looking for they find you the best price and the check many different places. I have saved a lot on powder and Berger bullets. Watch the shiping, sometimes the price is nice but the shipping is higher!

I am not sure when Midway improved, I was out of the reloading game for 4 years because of some Family issues, I am glad they have gotten better. They have a huge selection that is for sure. I saw someone on this thread talk about Blue Collar Reloading, I went and checked them out and they had some real good pricing on a primer I like CCI BR4 Benchrest primers. I paid 14$ a thousand than they had them for, I will have to try and remember their name!
