Message to Members about Demands...

In recent days I've been receiving a barrage of emails and PMs demanding I immediately perform some task. Requests to have more free classifieds because guys have reached their limit. Some guys want me to resize their photos, or tell them how to install software. One guy even wanted me to work up a load for him on Quickload. Of course 95% of these individuals expect I should do this stuff immediately... and for free.

I just want to explain something... In addition to moderating the Forum, and vetting all new members, and answering emails, and trying to answer questions, I write the stories. Lots of stories. Individually, I produce more stories every month than two NRA magazines do with squads of writers and multiple editors. All while moderating a Forum with 45,000 members.

I have released 9988 Daily Bulletin stories, and nearly 600 long-format stories in the main site. I work on stories EVERY DAY of the Year. Yes even on Holidays. I haven't had a true vacation (where I don't work at least 4 hours/day on the site) since April 2016.

To create this story took work. I ran down the specs, I confirmed components with the owner, I tracked down the aftermarket XLR Buttstock, I found a video, and I edited the photos. This story went pretty fast, but some can take 5 or 6 hours.

Please understand this when you send PMs or emails demanding immediate assistance.

I honestly don't think many gun-writers could put that story together as fast as I did. And I know none of them are also running a Forum with 45,000 members.

I work on the site over 3000 hours per year. Time is precious. Please keep that in mind.

Thanks, Boss. I'm still working on my 20 Vartarg article for you. I can certainly appreciate the time it takes you to put together content for the site and I'm hoping my content will make the cut and be a valuable addition.

The gun of the week articles and the cartridge guides are what originally brought me here over a decade ago. Those are super interesting and valuable, and they took a tremendous amount of time to create.

To folks asking what they could do: if you've got an idea for content you would like to create for the site, pitch it to the boss, it may just turn out that he's interested!

There is another site I used to go to all the time, the name kinda sounds like what the knights of old used to do on horseback, charging each other with lances.

The most active forum there is all political opinion, very little shooting/gun related. The Trolls are alive and well there.

I am thankful for the moderation at this site keeping us on topic. I know how hard it is toride herd on all of us, but most of us seem to adult folk here.

Your work does not go unnoticed or unappreciated even tho you don't hear it enough. I know I can speak for All here when I say "We all appreciate your service to this forum and All your personal time spent making it what it is. It IS the best shooting forum out there. It's no mistake that it has become the best forum. It's your work that put it there. Thank you again. John.

Paul you do a lot of work so just ignore people with personal needs that you cant possibly deal with without a crew of many people doing it so you can do your above and beyond job. Honestly I don't know how you do it everyday but it is greatly appreciated by most.

Forum boss, here’s an issue that hopefully you can address. When threads get ridiculous is it in poor taste to request a thread closure or edits? I know I’ve tagged admin before on insane threads not sure if that’s ok or not. I don’t want to be a demanding member.

And who’s to judge what is ridiculous or in poor taste ? I personally have no problem leaving threads that I find ridiculous or in poor taste. Nobody is forcing you to continue to read a thread or comment in one. IMO there’s little need for the forum boss to worry about yours and others judgements and tastes. JMO.

Paul, I REALLY APPRECIATE THIS SITE. I used to frequent several different sites but now this is just about the only site I go to. Your hard work is appreciated by more than you think. The members here are very knowledgeable and willing to share valuable informational also. As far as the demands on you doing something right now there are two consecutive letters in the alphabet (since you are a writer/publisher) that you need to use. They are the consecutive letters N&O. My wife's uses those letters all the time on me. Thank You For Your Hard Work and A Great Site

See, my above post is in poor taste. When youre reading a thread about a 6 dasher and some guy calls another dude an idiot. That’s pretty cut and dry for an inappropriate post. Or how about another dude telling someone else that their scope is crap bc it’s not a nightforce? See poor taste again.

Political threads...nothing more to say there.

Saying products suck with no real world experience.

How about posting an ad in the classifieds and someone says your price sucks? Those are always fun.

Anyway that’s why I was asking the forum boss. Threads get deleted and comments removed all the time. Not sure if he polices it on his own or it was appropriate for forum members to make him aware.
