Meopta ZD

I watched a you tube video comparing the Meopta ZD to a Zeiss Victory. 20 minute video, in detail by a guy who knows optics. I like what he had to say and found a Meopta ZD 4-16x44 at a steal of price, new. It showed up today and I've had it out on the porch playing with it. Pretty amazing at first glance. Solid turrets, nice mildot reticle, one of the cleanest I've seen. Just curious if anyone has one of these that they have owned for some time, If so, I'd love to hear thoughts.

The you tube video was by a guy named Richard Utting, He has some reviews I like if your interested.

I can't speak of rifle scope comparisons but I compared a Meopta spotting scope against my Swarovski spotter and the clarity, contrast, and chromatic abberation (or lack of, I should say) were very close. The Meopta was about $1000 less than the Swaro. I don't think you will have any issues with the glass!

I didn't know Meopta produced the NF spotters, good to know. I need to get a spotter this year. Ledd slinger has posted some good info on the Cabelas Euro spotters, also Meopta. I need to get in to a store where I can compare them.

This scope doesn't have a lot of elevation or windage travel, ledd pointed that out. However it's going on 600-700 yards and under rifles. I like the scope enough I bought more of then because of the price point. I did a box test on it yesterday, turrets are spot on return to zero was no problem. I've played with a lot of scopes the last two years, this one stands out.

Yeah Meopta makes the NF spotter as well. It is just the Meostar S2 HD 20-70X 82mm in NF clothing.

Although the Cabelas Instinct Euro HD spotter is also the same spotting scope, there is one difference with the Cabelas version. The Cabelas version does not have a removable eyepiece. The original Meopta S2 and the NF version do have removable eyepieces. So if you want to purchase the 30-60X wide angle eyepiece for the Meopta S2 instead of the standard 20-70X, you must have the actual Meopta or the NF.

Why does the Cabelas version have a fixed eyepiece? I was told it is because of the warranty differences offered by Meopta themselves, NightForce, and Cabelas. This is also something to carefully consider when choosing between the 3 versions. I'll explain...

When you buy the S2 with the actual Meopta badge, Meopta gives you a lifetime transferrable warranty against "manufacturing defects" under normal use. Great warranty and good enough for most folks.

Nightforce charges you a couple hundred extra dollars for the same scope just because it has "NF" on it. However, that's all you're paying extra for because NF only gives you an 18 year warranty against "manufacturing defects"...and the warranty is NOT transferrable.

Now here is why the Cabelas eyepiece is fixed. They had Meopta manufacturer their version slightly simpler to cut costs on their dealer pricing of the optic. Why? Because Cabelas gives you a lifetime no hassle, no fault, fully transferrable warranty. So if you drop it and break the glass, no worries. Just go get a new one. Of course covering mistakes made by the owners equates into more cost for Cabelas to dish out new scopes or send them in for repairs. The fixed eyepiece also reduces the risk for the Cabelas warranty of an owner damaging the eyepiece of scope glass in the body when changing them out. So that's why they did what they did with the eyepiece when they made this deal with Meopta.

But all 3 versions have the same amazing top tier glass.

old topic but i have zd 6-24, it is amazing
clarity is fenomenal, hunting at night no problems, using for local sport shooting also no problem, the reticle is crisp clear, nice digital ilumination/auto shut down/
the only two downside with this is that reticle is true mildot only at 12x, so if you crank it to 24 1 mil becomes 0,5 mil etc.
and the other that clicks are 1/4MOA
clicks are clear good and precise, no mushines and other stuff
realy one of the best buys ever possible if you can find it at decent price....

i use it mostly at 12x and in that range i can compare it with any other euro optic out there the image is perfect...
