MEMORIAL DAY 2021

This Monday is the last Monday in May and therefore is Memorial Day. If you dig through all the ads, sales, and specials, it is a day in which we Americans honor all the men and women who have died serving our country.
The number is a bit hard to narrow down (one is too many) but around 700,000 could be accepted. Surprisingly nearly that same number died in non-combat circumstances. (I'm always confused how the count is compiled i.e. A VietNam Veteran dies 35 years after serving due to Agent Orange exposure)
Regardless all Americans should take a moment to remember those vets no longer with us.
This is NOT a political post, it's an AMERICAN one.

As a veteran having served in a war zone, Memorial Day holds very special and deep feelings for those who died in combat as they served our country. It's a day for me to make it a point to remember them, to be thankful for them and to honor them. No words can really express how I feel as any word I try to come up with falls short. Intense gratitude will have to do.

PS: this is Memorial Day, not Veterans Day

He served in the Pacific theater namely, Iwo Jima during World War II as a United States Marine. He is a quiet and humble man. Hard working and raised his children well. He is doing well especially considering his age. Standing beside him and talking to him I am brought to tears to know such a man, thank you Norm and men and women just like you all over our great country! Here is a picture from just a week ago of Norm and myself.

We have at least two WWII vets locally, smallish community. There was a write up in the paper about them and their experiences today. I've met one of them personally at my house a couple of years ago. Even had breakfast with him (and they guy that set it up). It really pains me to see the way the some are undermining what they fought for and the new people seem intent on giving it all away. Gary

AMEN

I touched on this in a different unrelated post earlier today, but it seem this would be a better pass to post!
If you read my earlier post, this one will sound very similar.

As many of you already know, I am still an active duty Marine EOD Tech. at the end of my career. 2 weeks ago, I was tasked (honored!) to escort a Marine Dress Blues uniform to the MAPS Air Museum in North Canton, Ohio. This uniform will be displayed in the Hall of Honor in respect for Sergeant Daniel Patron who was killed in action 6 Aug, 2011 Afghanistan. I knew Dan in passing a few times before he was killed, however I never thought I would be picked to conduct such an honorable mission as this. This hit pretty close to home since he grow up about 45 mins from my home town!
At the time, I did not give much thought to the up coming holiday, more so conducting this mission in the most 100% professional manner possible! Between meeting an AWESOME set of parents (Kathy and Frank Patron) and all the personnel at the Museum, the event completely surpassed my expectations.
If you are ever in the area, take the time to stop at the MAPS Air Museum in North Canton. you will not regret it.
Also, if you get a moment this weekend, please give Dan a thought! He was truly a hero!
