The "COOKIES" are never freeYou should have to pay to play. A minimum of ten dollars to get in. The amount of access should be based on your ticket price.
That way there would be an incentive to pay. Why marry her when you can get the cookies for free?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, many people use the marketplace who are not members. The first step should be to block any nonpaying individual from using the marketplace either to buy or sell if they are not paying members. If you're not willing to pay a simple $50.00 dollar fee you don't get to sell or purchase goods on the site. That step alone would push a lot of people into paying members.
I'd go one step further, if a person isn't a silver or gold member, I'd restrict them from posting. If you wanna play you've gotta pay.

The problem with this is, anyone who registers becomes a member. I just read where someone sold a $1,500 dollar item to another person here, neither of whom were paid members. This was the 13th item the seller had sold. I could only find three records of sale out of the 13 items he received feedback for. For those three sales, he raked in $3,275.00. So why can't he afford $50.00 Gold Membership?
You want to read, OK, get a free ride. you want to comment and ask questions, Silver membership and maybe two transactions a year. Want to buy and sell more, pay a fee for each transaction or become a Gold Member.
If you want a free ride, go out on the road and stick out your thumb. That used to work pretty good, but in today's world, no one wants to stop for you anymore.

members, I don’t think we will ever draw in much new membership. We also have to think about the elders and Veteran’s that enjoy participating on this forum. Money only can go so far on a limited budget. $25 or $50 can go a long ways to buy a family member’s birthday or Christmas presents each year.
I do believe you should be a paying member to participate in the classified section.

If the Boss doesn't receive enough $$$ to cover his aggravation of hosting this site, no one will be using it, it will be gone.
If you can't scrape up enough money to donate you sure as hell can't afford to shoot. If you can afford a computer and internet service, you can afford to donate.

A silver membership is $25.00 a year. That's less than $.07 per day. It is ridiculous to suggest, that is not affordable, for anyone who regularly uses a computer. Especially those of us who use this forum.
People who come to this forum as newbies, usually do so because they have either just bought a new gun or are having problems with one they already own or have a question about reloading and such. Some come her just to buy and sell items and hardly ever make comments. Paupers rarely own or use guns as a hobby.
It's not about affordability. There many out there who simply will not pay for what they can get for free.

I've met some really great guys on this forum and gotten some amazing deals on lightly used items. I know I've saved more than what my membership cost many times over. I've passed on some good deals from sellers that aren't at least a Silver Member and have no messages. I've seen too many guys get taken by scam artists to trust someone that doesn't have a little skin in the game. At some point in time I'm going to need to thin the herd on what I've acquired over the years and I can't think of a better place to sell some of my treasures. If and when I start down sizing I'm thinking of giving Gold Members $50 off and Silver Members $25 off the item and making the same contribution to the Forum. That way every ones a winner.
