Measuring reamer neck

Can an un-turned Lapua 6.5x284 neck, expanded to 7mm with a Berger 180g hybrid seated in it, fit in a chamber with a .313 neck? (I don't think so but they fit in mine.)

My PT&G 284 Shehane reamer is stamped .313 nk, but fired cases are measuring .314 - .3145 with my caliper. I measured the reamer neck by setting the caliper jaws to .312 and putting the reamer neck between them so that it did not contact and then turning it slowly, making sure I held it squarely, until the reamer cutters spread the caliper jaws to the maximum position. The caliper read .3145. I did it several times with the same result. My caliper measures various bullets exactly correctly, so I doubt it is lying to me.

Would one expect that much variance on a PT&G reamer? It's not a problem since I can still get the lapua necks cleaned up with the turner and have the finished round measure .312, but if they were any smaller I would not be happy.

just as easy. or actually easier..it was the chambering that was off....ouch...

call dave and ask if he would check the size..thier are busy..but shooter friendly

The only real way to determine if the chamber was cut poorly is to cast it and measure the dimensions and compare to your reamer print.
