McRee Modular Alum Stock now avail for Savage Target Action / LRPV

I know this sounds like I'm shilling for Scott but mostly I'm just trying to get the word out as Scott has been great to work with and has been willing to support those of us who shoot Savages.

There are not many options for stocks for the Savage Target / LRPV single shot actions. I ordered a Stockade benchrest stock and waited my 8 weeks but then I saw the stock Scott McRee was doing for the 700s and thought that was cool. I decided to call Scott and ask about the Savage.

Scott didn't have a Savage to use as a pattern so I sent him my rifle and as the new Stockade benchrest stock had just arrived, I sent that too.

Scott called me on Sunday, he was finishing my stock and had a few questions. He told me my stock would ship out on Tuesday [today]. He said he would put a couple of photo's up on his website.. I just looked and there is my gun. I'm doing the Snoopy dance!

As requested the stock is in the white as I want to finish it in Duracoat myself. Although you can't completly see it, the back end has Scott's new 4 way system with adjustable cheek rest, LOP, butt plate height and cant.

Now that he has the measurements setup in his CNC Scott is another option for those with Savage single shot Target Action/LRPV actions needing stocks.

I still don't know quite how much I owe  but it is one neat stock system. I may even get a second front end for pure benchrest shooting, the one pictued is the 'hunter' front end.

He also has 20MOA scope rails available to fit the Savage for $35, turns out the rail he makes for the Lawton action is the same pattern as the Savage.

The gun in the pic has a Mike Rock barrel chambered in 6BR and is shouldered on the action but the stock should fit a Savage with a barrel nut as well.

When I get it in I will take pictures. Now I just have to decide what color I want and if I'm going to paint the action and barrel too. Then mount up the Nightforce scope and start load development... :)

A couple weeks ago, I contacted Scott and proposed doing a full Gun of the Week feature with one or more of his metal-stocked rifles.

These have performed VERY well both in long-range BR and tactical applications.

Scott promised to send some pix and info for a story, but he's very busy and I'm still waiting.

One nice thing about the McCree stocks is the modular fore-arm. Tweak a couple bolts and you can swap forearms, changing the weight, width, and profile. Conceivably, you could use one fore-arm in a prone match, then turn around and shoot the same gun with a wider forearm in a BR match. That's cool.

I hope he can complete a gun of the week feature.

I'm impressed with the fact that as busy as Scott is he took the time and was enthused to get a center section setup for Savage. Despite being busy his communication was good and he called me to confirm my use of the gun, the weight of the stock and other details.

The fact that he called on Sunday from the shop says a lot to me. He said he is getting more equipment in the shop which will help with production. This design has obviously struck a chord with many shooters.

Now I really want one of the Rem 700 stocks that take the AICS magazines.

I read this article and it motivated to contact Scott about one of his stocks. He was friendly and easy to do business with and had my stock shipped in a timely matter, about a week), which is excellent IMO. I received it today and its a work of CNC art. I still need to pick a finish for it, it's still in the white. Lawton Machine is working on my next project,.338 lapua) and guess what stock that it will be wearing.

I have one with a Savage PV in 220 Swift AI in it. Shoots great, will adjust more ways than I can think of. It is a great stock, and he was very pleasant to work with. Shipped in three days. Wow.
