McM stocks Vs. HS stocks

I know we have all been down this road before, but now have in my hands two MCM stocks, and I have to tell you, I am not all that impressed. They're nice stocks, they are light weight, edge), they fit good, but damn they are so expensive. I also have several HS stocks and I have had nothing but good luck with them and they cost about half the money. Since I already spent the money it's just a matter of understanding why, why did I spend nearly 500 bucks for a stock? Ok, almost everyone says that McM are the best, and I want to have something that shoots and that I can be proud of,pride of ownership and to give to my two sons some day). I can understand the cost of a new barrel,I have two of them as well) but at least the barrel is what delivers the bullet. What does the stock do that makes it so important to the whole package? These two stocks and the rest of the stuff is going to Chris. I know that's where the real magic happens. But damn, these stocks are just so costly I just want to make sure that I want to use them. I mean I could sell them both, buy two HS stocks and have money left over for another barrel, scope, trigger or to just take my wife out for a weekend on the town. So guys, please make me feel all warm and fuzzy about my two McM stock.

Thanks again

Doug

Are you talking about the EDGE Benchrest stocks? If that is the case, then there is no real comparison to be made. Although HS Precision makes excellent products, they do not make a stock that is currently in use for Benchrest. They make one in that style, but I have never seen one at a match. The EDGE stock is a state of the art competition stock that sees a lot of use at Bench rest matches, for several reasons. In competition, sporter and LV) we try to have a stock that is as light as possible, and still have stiffness. We also are also looking for precise tracking on front and rear sandbags. To achieve these goals, Kelly McMillan started with a fresh sheet of paper, and went to the Benchrest community for ideas. In order to get the weight that he was looking for, with the needed stiffness, carbon fiber was used instead of fiberglass. This is not a cheap material. Another advantage of the McMillan stocks, EDGE or not, is the gel coat finish, saving the user the cost of a paint job, while providing a surface more durable than paint, and one that slides on sand bags well, with or without stock tape.

H-S Precision makes a fine line of stocks, but if we're comparing them to the offerings made by McMillan we must keep in mind that the McM shop will custom make your stock with a huge amount of options and inlettings. Far more than H-S P has available. For example I can order the same McM stock with inlettings for single shot or repeater with several different trigger guard/floorplate options, different width barrel channels, adjustable LOP or fixed with several different butt pad options, fixed comb or several different styles of adjustable cheekrests, QD swivels, flush cups, Witchita loops, or none at all, different fill weights, and painted or molded-in color schemes. That's why I choose McMillan, although I'll admit to owning several rifles with H-S P stocks.

The only real complaints that I have with McM is their high prices ;) and the time that it takes to get one from placing my order to final delivery.

Thanks guys, great stuff here as usual. I guess I need to set the record straight. My edge stocks are not the bench rest stocks, but the hunters edge stocks. They are the very light weight stocks but look more like a classic sporter stock. These stocks only come painted, no gel coat, and no marble camo. You can get, I think, the other options, but I am not sure. The seem like very good stocks, it's just that price tag.
