Maybe a breakthrough with BRA ?

If you set a target at 100 and one at 200 directly behind it do you think the 100 yard paper would meaningfully change the 200 yard groups? Would be interesting to see how the groups change

Occasionally yes! Most of the time no! Once the gun is shooting the way I want at 100 yards. I'll check it at 200! Occasionally I'll tweak it a little to get it a bit tighter. But 95% of the time no additional work is needed.

No i mean if you shot two targets at the same time. Like one at 100 yards and one at 200. I think I'll try that this weekend I'm curious.

Are you asking if going thru paper will affect the bullet’s flight? Yes of course it will. Ive shot thru surveyors tape and threw a bullet halfway across the target

If they hold up at 600 then you may have your load.
I decided to shoot a couple groups at 600 yards before next Sat. match. I carried only two loads...both with 30.6 gr. H4895/CCI400 and the Hammers loaded .005 into the lands and .025 off the lands. My first group out of a cold, clean barrel measured a very small 0.639" 3-shot group (my best 3-shot group at 600...Ever). The "jumped' load shot two together and one went high. That was all of the Bart's that I shot, but did shoot some Berger VLD Hunting...both 87 and 105 gr. I had a couple of groups that were slightly less than 2 inches, but I will shoot the Hammers next week that are .005 INTO the lands. Good shooting...James

What was the velocity for that load? what was the ES? jim
The velocity was 2935 with a Sd of 5 (I believe that the ES was 11 fps). This was taken with my old Oehler 35 at 10 feet.

Thanks James, I just took Varget the whole way up by a .1 of a gr. till I hit pressure and one lot will shoot and a new lot is a waste of money. If I hit the velocity range of the first lot on a given load both H4895 and Varget will shoot. No free lunch any more...... jim

Shot my 100 yard tune this weekend! It was a double match and I Dq'ed on the first match! I managed to shoot 10 shots on my first target! NOT the First time I've been guilty of that!

However for the second match it was good enough to win LG Score, LG Overall, and 2nd in the Two Gun!

Was this a 600yd match? I'm assuming your first target was supposed to be 5 shots? I have my share of brain farts, the only ones I let bother me are the ones that happen when working the target pits because they affect someone else. Luckily there were only a couple and they had no effect accept to make me do better.

Yes it was a registered IBS 600 yard match. With the 600 yard course of fire you shoot 4 targets, of 5 shots each, in Light Gun and 4 targets, of 5 shots each in Heavy Gun.

The unique thing is your targets are hung two at a time! Either side by side or one on top of the other. So say for match 1 you will shoot target 1 and remain at your bench. The firing line is called cold and then you will shoot your second match target 2. So in my case I got excited and shot my 5 shots for target 2 on target one. As far as I know 600 yard Benchrest is the only competition that you can crossfire on yourself! It may of had something to do with the smoke detector going off in my room at 12:30 am and 3:20 am. Not a great nights sleep! We had to unplugged and put the damn thing outside!

NBRSA 600 and 1000 not like that, thank God. We shoot 3 5 shot LG targets and 3 10 shot HG targets w/ sighter targets before each. SO what happens if wind blows 1 of your shots onto the other target, DQ? By the way were you shooting Hammers when to set your record, and how long is the wait time? Thanks, Barry.

That’s a DQ!

As for wait time I’m not exactly sure!

That’s some pretty fine shooting and a mighty good load. Be hard to beat

Looking forward to seeing your results this Saturday James.I hope you do very well, looks like you are well prepared. On a side note I won a little memorial Hunter Bench match we hold to remember one of our past shooters here in Colorado. My point is I usually stress out and try really hard to beat the other shooters, this time I just relaxed and remember enjoying myself during the match,I wasn’t worried about winning or losing I was among friends having fun.Being prepared and shooting good equipment is very important, but the right attitude is the way to the winners circle.Best of luck to you James.I have a feeling we are going to be hearing about some new records:)
Matt

Thanks Matt, but don't put any money on my chances. At my age I am lucky to survive the match :). In an above post someone talked about approaching a match with the right attitude, and this was good advice. We have a great group of shooters at Pioneer and there are some really good shooters there...….this makes winning harder and harder, but if one's objective is to have fun, then failure is not possible. Good shooting...James
