May American Rifleman Notice

So how do we fix it? Why does LaPierre have so much power? If he is getting a clothing allowance and wasting our money, didn't the board approve his contract? If the board has approved of this and then they are quitting, then Wayne isn't necessarily the problem, the board is. Seems to me like we need to get a board of directors in there that can make some changes... correct me if I am wrong here.

Wayne makes a million $$ a year. He can afford his own clothing.

  • The NRA has ticked me off many times over the decades, I don't like what is going on with them right now but the are the 500 pound gorilla in the room when it comes to politics and as a consequence I am supporting them. GOA, SAF and other pro-gun organizations are good but they do not have anywhere near the clout with politicians as the NRA. Think about this when have you ever heard a politician or the news media mention any pro-gun organization other than the NRA. Hopefully we can support them all and they will in turn support us, I would love to see them all have as much influence as the NRA.

If the NRA has so much clout then why are we loosing our rights ?
I give to GOA, SAF NY 2nd ammendment and NYS rifle and pistol association as well as the NRA.
But The NRA ticked me off when they want me to put them in my will. They even want my money after I am dead. I would give them more if I see them doing anything on NYS. So far I haven't seen them do anything in NYS.

I look forward to the solicitation letters and find the offers for free NRA branded items like gas station pocket knives and paper mache' duffle bags almost enticing enough to stroke a extra check to Wayne Enterprises...…..almost.

In 2015, NRA contributions totaled $95 million. In that year, LaPierre received a $3.7 million deferred compensation distribution from his "employee funded deferred compensation plan", which was required by federal law, and according to the NRA raised his total annual compensation to $5,110,985.

Ok, Lets straighten out a few things since we are going right back down the road of doing nothing but complaining, and they just go right on doing what they are doing. Yes the NRA does very good things for groups or ranges, our local range has been helped by the NRA.

The problem keeps going back to where is the money going and why, also a lack of communication to the members from those in charge of the money. If the NRA makes almost $100 million a year from the members then there needs to be a public accounting to the members of where it went each year. I am sure our federal government has a agency for that purpose if we simply raise our voices as a group. There isn't a single (legal) organization in this country that they don't have their thumb on to get more taxes from if possible, and that includes tax exempt ones as well if the government can find a way to do so.

As i said earlier, if you want to change things you must slow or stop the flow of money, period. Otherwise we are just sitting here whining like all the other times this has come up.

Can't believe that, if you're a NRA member, you don't already know. I've been getting emails everyday, sometimes three times a day, begging me to send money to save the NRA. I replied by telling them I would catch up my usual quarterly donations as soon as Wayne tendered his resignation. Of course, they are too busy sending me requests for donations to respond to that one.
There are so many battles to fight but the internal battle at NRA is making others, even the huge one in their own backyard of Virginia, go unattended. GOA, RKBA and SAF are in the fight. So is VCDL and, even though I don't live in VA, that is where I am currently donating.

I live in VA. Living in the NRA's backyard, I know several folks retired from the NRA. They have cut the funding on most of the departments not to the bone, but all the way through to the marrow. The Competitions Division, and Publications Division have suffered the most.

It is just not the organization that it used to be, and it's members are no longer in control of it. I have been a VCDL member since I found out about them 12 years ago. Philip Van Cleave & crew do more on gun legislation on a local level than any other organization out there. Sometimes with great success, sometimes not.

FWIW, the NRA (as well as SAF, GOA, and JPOF) was present at the Bugaloo in Richmond - just not outside.

I haven't given up on the NRA completely - but I'm not giving them anything other than my annual dues until Wayne LaPierre 'retires'.

Thank you. I felt as if I was calling the Bible a comic book by commenting poorly on NRA in a firearm forum and it hurts me to the core that I felt the need to do so. I have paid dues and donations in NRA constantly beginning in 1977. I had always felt the NRA was working for our 2A, hence all our Constitutional protections. I have heard it said many times that "it will never happen in Alabama" but I have a feeling many have said the same for VA. Now look what has happened. My heart, my soul and my dollars are with my brothers and sisters in VA. You fight a fight that is truly for us all. Much appreciated.

Just another reason and confirmation to what I stated earlier. And as mentioned above until the $$$ are cut-off we are only crying in our bowl cornflakes.

Bill you are right, nothing more to say here. I simply hope some of the younger members who still have the energy to change things will step up and keep trying. One last point here, if the ex-board members who have tried to help us change this problem got together and let us know whats really going on perhaps we could find a way to change it.

The NRA has changed so much under Wayne LaPierre, internally, politically and money wise. Especially when I hear of his lavish spending on homes, suits, etc..... Many of my older buddies have dropped their life time membership. I now wonder to renew my membership. I think next year I will join the California rifle and pistol association. nilebartram
