May American Rifleman Notice

Be that as it may, but the right people doing their job for the American people will produce far more than the NRA.
If it were not for the NRA we would not be having this conversation and this forum would not exist and we would not have a 2nd amendment and we would no longer have guns. I have been observing the Democrat party try to abolish gun ownership all of my adult life since 1960 and they would have succeeded if not for the NRA. Our best hope is to fix the NRA, we do not have the time to start over.

I agree. We must fix the NRA. LaPierre has to go before that can happen. Why do you think longtime BOD members like Tom Selleck and Richard Childress have resigned their positions? Why do you think Julie Goloski was only on the BOD for a couple of months before resigning in disgust?

NRA, GOA and Your states org if you have one, like Ca Rifle and Pistol Assos. are three that every firearm owner should support, even if they seem that they are not seeing eye to eye with your thoughts. They are the only one's really working for your rights and trying their best to keep the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights in the forefront, even though many of your politicians are not.

Well said and I agree with you, but as much as I hate to admit it the NRA does need to straighten up! I just don't know how to accomplish that.

Can't believe that, if you're a NRA member, you don't already know. I've been getting emails everyday, sometimes three times a day, begging me to send money to save the NRA. I replied by telling them I would catch up my usual quarterly donations as soon as Wayne tendered his resignation. Of course, they are too busy sending me requests for donations to respond to that one.
There are so many battles to fight but the internal battle at NRA is making others, even the huge one in their own backyard of Virginia, go unattended. GOA, RKBA and SAF are in the fight. So is VCDL and, even though I don't live in VA, that is where I am currently donating.

I can understand your point of view and maybe you already know this but most of those emails aren't generated by a human. Just as the people that are calling you for a donation don't work for the NRA. They usually work for a company paid to do a job for the NRA. Complaining to the people that call and responding to those emails does almost nothing. I agree with you on your reasoning but we have to find a better way to fix our biggest gun in the fight.

So how do we fix it? Why does LaPierre have so much power? If he is getting a clothing allowance and wasting our money, didn't the board approve his contract? If the board has approved of this and then they are quitting, then Wayne isn't necessarily the problem, the board is. Seems to me like we need to get a board of directors in there that can make some changes... correct me if I am wrong here.

NRA - Wayne has to go! I remember when Chris Wallace did a number on Wayne on TV in front of zillions of viewers. In addition to lacking force (little) Wayne is grossly over paid & compensated. In 2016 and about, NRA reps were establishing some comradely relationship with the Russians for some unknown purpose. My past experience with the NRA indicates that the NRA is sort of a "good old boys club" where real concerns of members are sloughed off.

NRA emails and other, including Wayne's extensive wardrobe, don't upset me as much as documentable revelations of persistent NRA failures. My best guess is that NRA higher ups and Wayne are benefitting from less than straight NRA doings and have no incentive to change. This is bad because eventually some state AG will land on the NRA severely.

I paid $100 back in the mid 1960's for a NRA life membership. I also remember Neal Knox.

I agree with you, but that is mostly from years ago. Now, the “paid” leadership is almost all show and no go! Most all of the membership of the NRA are working for; donating for; joining for the right reasons. The very top, not the voted in “front” of the NRA, but the paid “professional” NRA “dug in like ticks” executives are ruining the foundation of the NRA. They are just as bad as some of the money grubbing jerks in Washington, D.C. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a member and I’ll remain a member until a “Cleaner” organization, with the power to get things done, comes along. But, I won’t donate, as I used to.

I suppose the NRA does some good legal work. But I really don't know. They send so many requests for money that I throw them in the trash without opening. My membership has lapsed because they don't appear to have a system set up to just notify me that my two year membership is due for renewal. How stupid is that? I'll renew simply because it annoys the liberals. I suppose they are probably good at the fight in DC, lobbying and such. But basically, they are like Ducks Unlimited - send money, we're having fun - you donate a million to us and get the tax break and we'll fund a million or so in grants on your property for "improvements". It's all about the money.

There are 75 people on the NRA board of directors. A handful of directors resigning in disgust does absolutely nothing but open up a spot on the BOD for another crony. The board had a chance when this thing flared up a year ago to do something about Wayne, but instead Oliver North (who blew the whistle on Wayne) and Chris Cox were sent packing. There are a handful of honorable board members, the rest are swamp creatures. The handful is powerless against the other 70.

I really didn't start this thread as an anti LaPierre or NRA rant. I am a life member, and think there are some problems in the NRA, and a good airing out of the Organization's finances to the membership, as well as more information on what the real condition of the NRA is would be a good start. I was hoping that was what would come from the letter he mentioned. If the BOD expects things to improve by doing nothing they should remember Einsteins quote. "Doing the same thing and expecting different results is insanity."

"Chris Cox were sent packing."

IMO this was a huge loss, Chris was a very effective lobbyist for the organization. I only vote for board nominees that are nominated by member petition and are active competition shooters and/or active in their respective state associations, not the ones that are selected by the nominating committee who tend to be swamp rats. I think Wayne was an effective leader 10 or so years ago, not as hard-line as I would have liked, but effective. Like so many in and around the nations capital he has outgrown his shorts and feathered his nest to excess. I still belong, our oldest daughter worked there in membership in the 80'-mid 90's and both daughters are life members. They and my wife and I were very active in the Friends of NRA for 15 years but all of us think it is time for a leadership change.

i got the letter. didn't open it. what did i miss?

like it or not, agree with their tactics or not, nra has the name recognition and perhaps until recently the track record. politics is perception. as noble as goa and saf are we need to reorganize the nra, not kill it...

i;ve been in this since the 60's and remember when there was great discontent that the nra had become so 'militant'... amazing to think about that in today's environment.
