Mausingfield Actions?

The new standards that seem to be incorporated in bolt action rifle designs today are the Remington 700 footprint and Remington 700 trigger. The two design characteristics that I would like to see are a flat bottomed action and a bolt lock safety that actually cams the firing pin as the Mauser and Model 70 do. The stock and trigger selection today for the Remington compatible components is boundless but for me, in a hunting rifle, I want the mechanical safety design of the Model 70, which can be used with the 700 style triggers. For this reason, I choose H-S Precision rifles for my hunting rifles. I see the safety design as being more desirable on a hunting rifle than controlled round feed.

Mausingfeld could have incorporated the M70 safety into the cocking piece.

That is the standard knob they come equipped with these days. If ordered from ARC they will swap it out on request. When I ordered my 2nd Nucleus I had it shipped with a .223 bolthead and also purchased a .308 bolthead for barrel swaps.
I see a Mausingfield in my future, provided I ween myself off another Savage.

Took it out the first time. Shot a 198-8 @ 500 w/ some berger 77otm's with no load development.

It's a bit picky about how you feed/work the bolt. I've read that the extractor claw can need a little work to get tuned perfectly along with some break in.

So far I'm really happy.

It’s been said that all controlled round feed actions need a bit of extractor tuning.

I know Ted has a stiffy for his Archimedes action but I still think the mausingfield is his coolest action.

It really is built incredibly well. All of the parts are beautifully machined.

If they could use the same Melonite service that BAT uses, this would be my favorite action.

Looks really nice!!

If you drop a loose round on top of the mag will it chamber and will the extractor clip over the rim ok?

What alloy are these actions machined from?

They don't openly say (as far as I can tell) but they do say this:

ENGRAVING A MAUSINGFIELD

A Mausingfield action is much too hard to engrave. Gunsmiths planning to build engraved rifles should request a soft action from American Rifle Company. After engraving is complete and before the action is used, it must be heat treated per American Rifle Company’s specification to establish proper strength. American Rifle Company will work closely with gunsmiths undertaking projects requiring an engraved action.

I will add that I checked the lug contact/fit after I had a barrel in it. They say they don't need to be lapped "because of the design" (what action manufacturer advertises that lugs need to be lapped?) and I'm happy to report that there was excellent contact. One lug had complete and even contact, and the other was 95+ percent.

Toroidal lugs kida seat themselves. Ted has a video with a plastic donut in a bowl showing how no matter how its tilted it still has contact
