Why go through all the bs finding a k98 when you can build one off a remington, and incidently they chambered their classic for one year in the 6.5 swede as well as ruger and savage.Today you can build up a rifle of your choice from the remington with loads of aftermarket parts or even easier is the savage which requires no gunsmith to do this project.
..... because im doing all the work, and then i wouldn't have what i wanted. Iv built a rifle on a stevens 200 action. That the total cost was 625$ the scope was the most expensive part of that build. At 200 yards it would put 4 rounds in the same hole. With my loads. 8 rounds where in less than 4/3 inch. Cheap can shoot good . Iv seen Ershaw barrels shoot good groups , but thay need moderate cleaning . The trick to cheap barrels is not over cleaning them . Thinking of trying one on this build . Iv got a m24 style barrel but its 30 cal bore 1 in 11 twist . I think the only thing it would be good for is a 308 . Enyone else think of a cal i can use it for let me know please, iv already Got one 308.

Hi CJ,hi all

I don't know what an M 24 is,but if the action you have with it allows for long cases, why not try the 30/06? It would make a nice hunting rig, lots of bullets to choose from, easy to get brass, and it really shoots,so...Good luck with your quest.

I used a Persian Mauser action, circa 1939, which are considered to be the "Cadillac" of Mauser actions and had Mark Gordon of Short action customs smith it with a Bartlein M24 profile and McMillan A5 stock. It's 1/3 MOA rifle using Fed Gold 168 gr. The key to any accurate rifle is (in order of importance, removing the guy pulling the trigger): 1) Barrel 2) trigger 3) Bedding/stock. Action is least important of these 3. I know a lot of people are going to yell and scream about this, but you don't have to buy a $1500 fancy action to be able to hit your target.

See my group at 300 yards with factory ammo and I am NOT a good shot, by no means.

A Mauser type on a hunting rifle works just fine. Have a .338 UM M70/Krieger barrel that will put 3 shots in 3/8" at 200yds.
