Mauser 98?

had a guy bring me a Mauser I think 98? I will get some pictures on here later, but was wanting to know the value of it. It has a brand new timney trigger in it, mag box, follower, spring and floor plate. It has some lite pitting on the side but all the finish is still there. Any idea?

That door is pretty wide open! It's best to narrow that down bit. Model with pics would be the very least.

If it has light pitting on the side visible above the stock line, you should check for pitting below the stock line. Especially if you are planning on buying it.

Got a pair of calipers? Give us a measurment of the inside diameter of the barrel threads. It looks like a small tennon 98.

Looks like somebody tried to touch up the bolt face. I bought a 22-250 Mauser 98. Had a custom
walnut stock and a 6x18 bushnell for 350.00. The guy was an old friend who needed cash, or i
think it would have sold for more. That rifle shoots well. It's no custom, but was a darn good
bolt in it's time. IMHO. That bolt also had a double set trigger.

Hey Caleb! You want to send a pm to Gary. Aka Ggmac. He knows more about Mausers than anybody. Nice guy, too! Good luck. You need to pull off the front base to see the "stamp" of manufacture on the top of the action. In that shape, I'll offer $100. I know little about them and rely on others but it's worth "what some one will pay";)

Any idea where it was made? Or the value? The guy wants me to sell it for him.
It's a german made of some manufacture, very likely DMW. The stuff you need to really identify it is kind a polished off. It started to say Waffen something. It is a large ring and I would call that heavily pitted and personally, I wouldn't mess with it. The extractor has been altered so it will close on a chambered round and the front of the receiver has been cut and I'm not sure that you'll find it square. I would PM "Bob the Nailer" and see if you can send him detailed pictures. He is very knowledgeable on 98's. I've done a bunch but nowhere near him. My opinion only, just looking at the pics, someone tried to modify a military action without sufficient skills.

Large rings measure 1.4" OD on the front ring, small rings measure 1.3" OD. Large rings threads are 1.1x12 TPI, small ring threads are .980x12 TPI. Small ring 98's are all WW1 vintage Kar 98's and that is not one. That is more than likely a WW2 vintage.

It's A 1907 Peruvian intermediate , and I notice it has a hinged trig guard , that puts it worth towards the upper end . It should of had a longer than normal receiver , it was trimmed down to std length , which was normal and it should of had a longer than usual cocking piece .
All the unusual features = Peruvian

Almost all the intermediate South American receivers have the same feature , even the 1903 Turkish , only the Peruvian had all plus the hinged trig guard . That is only the Peruvian had the hinged with small thread large ring .
Everybody wanted the argentine 1909 for its hinged guard and smooth action , that had a large ring large thread .
I may be mixing up the Peru , Paraguay and argentine . I can't remember if the Argentine trig guard , my memory is well , crappy . My books are well placed where I can't find them . The Peru model is 1907 or 1909 , the Paraguay model is 1907 .

So, did I "get it" for $100???;):):):):) :(I thought I was low! Thanks, Gary. Caleb is a friend and a good guy. Josh
Up , in its condition , with trig and trig guard . As long as the receivers recoil lugs are oK and the receiver wasn't taped in a recoil lug .
A lot of these were soft which is why I suggested checking the receiver lugs . Most pre ww1 receivers were heat treated by looks , much like our 1903 low number , but the Mausers were surface hardened and self building smiths would lap the lugs and go thru the surface heat treat .
