Mauser 1908

Question for all the Mauser experts. Will 2 peice scope bases on a 98 work on the 1908? I have a 1908 that came in my shop with stripped base threads and no bases. .440 hole spacing on the rear and .860 hole spacing on the front of the receiver. The front receiver ring is higher than the rear. I don't normally work on these, I'm just trying to help the owner get his rifle working.

I did my Mauser Project on a 1908 pattern, and yes, I used a set of 2 piece Warne rings for a 98. They were actually given to me by a very generous fellow member on this Sote.

A 1908 big ring is a 98 Mauser.

Thanks Jackie,
I think whoever drilled the action didn't have the right bases on hand. I looked on the Warne website and the hole spacing that's drilled in the receiver I have calls for Swedish Mauser 96 bases. Warne numbers M898 and 829M bases. Now , I need to determine will the 96 bases be the right height front and rear for the 1908 to mount the scope without issues. Anyone know?

That I do not know.
I drilled and tapped my action for 8/40 to got the Warne bases.

No. The 1908 (by DWM, I think) is a large ring action. If you use the bases for the 96, the front will be too high. The correct Weaver bases are a 45 and 46. You can probably cross reference those numbers to get the appropriate Warne bases. WH

You may need to shim your rear base if someone got carried away removing the charger hump. If the charger hump is still there, I usually relieve the base rather than the hump. I never tried this with Warnes, just Weaver and Redfield style
