Match Ammo 22lr Ammo vs Regular 22lr Ammo ?

I went thru same dilemma last year, decisions decisions. I could buy all knife different lots and test or determine to send my BR rimfire rifle to Eley or Lapua test chamber and let them do the work for me. Now some opinions are ammo from test chamber is different to real outdoor shoots. And I agree it is different. My reasoning is if it will not shoot in ideal conditions it will not shoot in the wind. I am no expert by any means but have the guidance of a well know rimfire marksman named Hawkeyewizard on Rimfire Central and he has taken time to pass on very good knowledge. If you look at ARA equipment list this last year you will notice Lapua made an strong showing at Nationals. Should be interesting how 2018 pans out

In .22lr you have to find what your rifle shoots best.. Almost every one is different and likes something different... Testing is the only way to find that out.. I like to start out with CCI standered velocity and move up from there...

Maybe.. i have not talked to Clint, so i will ask.. i am sure he is doing that with what he has in stock.. but if you are getting it out of Capstone.. it is bricks only from what i have been advised.

I think Clint may break up bricks to allow customers to try different lot numbers. He will send you a list of the all the inventory he has along with the lot numbers. I only try ammo that he has great back up supplies of the same lot number.

I run RWS in my Sako 22 . The difference between R50 , ( match grade)
and Target Rifle ( budget practise ammo ) really stands out at longer
ranges . For whatever silly reason I like shooting 22lr out to 500 meters
sometimes . The R 50 will hold around 2 - 3 MOA vertical in good
conditions . The much cheaper Target Rifle can show more than double
the elevation .

The humble 22 can be a picky critter , as mentioned above , just
test a few flavours of ammo and let the barrel tell you what it wants .

I ask because of a conversation that I had with an Anschutz employee a few years ago and some follow up conversations with a respected reamer maker and a nationally competitive rimfire shooter.

According to the Anschutz employee, Anschutz uses reamers that work best with Eley. They have a particular leade angle, headspace and perhaps other dimensional aspects of the reamer that are optimized for Eley.

The possibility of designing a reamer that is optimized for a particular LR cartridge was confirmed by both the reamer make and the competitive shooter. Both said that they understood the concept and the competitive shooter said that he did this.

If you look at pix of Lapua X-Act or Midas+ and then look at pix of Eley Tenex you can see that the shape of the bullet and thus where and how it would engage the leade differs. Perhaps this is analogous to varying seating depth on a centerfire rifle bullet.

Granted, these are adverts and not blueprint type drawings with checked dimensions, but they are perhaps enough to illustrate my supposition.

The reason I investigated all of this was that I was about to put together a rifle for NRA Smallbore Rifle Silhouette and was planning to use Lapua ammo. I was somewhat disappointed to find out that the barreled action I was most likely to choose, an Anschutz 1907-U6, was probably not going to like the Lapua ammo I wanted to use.

It seems that, as I inferred from your post, the greater efforts Lapua has been making recently is producing results. and the the long time king of rimfire ammo is being legitimately challenged.

If you are planning on using Lapua for your fodder.. you might want to look into having the barrel chambered with a Kevin Nevius reamer, it is spec'd esp for Lapua ammo..

I'm just getting started with benchrest target shooting and I'm finding it to be a great sport. However, being very new to all kinds of ammo can you please tell me what's the differences between Match Ammo vs Regular .22lr Ammo?
Prestley shooting my wonderful CZ 452 Rifle and firing CCI Standard. I'm still testing it.

Sometimes its up to you to make-sort measure and weigh the ammo. Weigh the rounds and separate into piles also measure and segregate according to rim thickness. Do this for any ammo although top match ammo will cost considerably more to start with.
