I have a rifle that I acquired at an estate sale was labeled as a 300 win mag on its tag. When i got it home I quickly learned it was not ( no caliber markings anywhere ) Barrel is 7mm I have searched for years to determine chambering. I brought this to a local smith yesterday he told me it was likely built by Art Mashburn, I think he is correct I would like to find more about it. I have a dummy cartridge that I fireformed it is too short to be a 7mm Mashburn or 7mm Mashburn Super I did find some evidence of a Mashburn Short Magnum but cant find any dimensions. Anyone here familiar with Mashburn cartridges that can help me I would like to confirm the caliber and find some dies
OAL length of case is about 2.48"
lenght from base to the body shoulder junction is 1.910"
30* shoulder anlge
Based on a standard belted magnum case .532" head
Dia at the body shoulder junction is .498"
Here are some pics look like a Mashburn rifle to anyone here?

Do you know what the caliber of the barrel is? You'll need that information to determine which cartridge it is.

The caliber is 7mm the cartridge is unknown but I suspect that it is a 7MM Mashburn Short Magnum. I edited the original post for clarity

Mashburn and PO Ackley were wildcatters back in the day . Many of the cases had the same volume but with. Different shoulder angles . Larry

Can't help you with the chamber cast but from the dimensions you gave it sure sounds like the 7mm Mashburn Short Magnum.

How did you determine that the OAL case lengthis 2.480"? All of the drawings I found stop at 2.635".

Where did you find dimensions for the 7mm mashburn short magnum I have been unable to find anything Can you post a link or drawing.

The 2.480" is a bit short for case length but should be in the ballpark. I had a chamber cast but cant find it I will have to do another to get a good dimension for case length. All the other dim. I listed are very close I took them from a fire formed case

JRS I have noted the info you provided 2.530" I have some cerrosafe on the way and I will confirm case length and post here Thank You for your help with this Im grateful

Hello Sir,

If you have a fire formed case couldn't you send it to a reamer maker, JGS , and ask them to do a drawing for you and maybe be able to tell you what it is ? Just a thought, ask the reamer people first of course.

Not the same rifle, but its a Mashburn. Anyone know anything about a Mashburn 350 Short Mag? Its clearly stamped on the barrel. I only see a 350 Mashburn Magnum and a 350 Mashburn Super Magnum.
