Markings on brass neck

I have a new Remington 700 5R in .308. Had it out five times working on load development. From the very beginning, I noticed a ridge/ring around the case head just over 1/10" on the case. It's large enough to catch with your finger nail. No other signs of pressure. Brass has been loaded twice. Full-length sized both times. Loads are running at ~2700 fps. COL is 2.800. CCH BR2 primers. Powder charge doesn't matter but high end is 45.2g Varget.

None of my other guns do this and I'm wondering if I have an issue. I've read a lot about how poor of a job Remington does on their barrels and how oversized they make them to limit their factory liability, but this doesn't seem right. I measured my chamber and found it to be long, to say the least. If I load to maximum length with a 168 SMK, I still come up .037" short of touching the lands. What are your thoughts? Is this something to send to Remington to fix?

What does a fired case measure? Looks to me like a chamber that's grossly oversized in diameter. I'm gonna guess it measures over .475ish?

Tom

And stop shooting it, I really don't like the look of that first picture. Looks about ready to separate. They may have to much space from face to breech also.
I've seen case separation before. Not to say this isn't the problem, but it looks a little different. I can't quite capture it with the iPhone. It's a small step out at the ring to the shine of the case head and it seems a bit more pronounce on one sie of the case. Nothing else out of the ordinary on case size. Case length-2.009; Neck-.345; Shoulder .455; Head .464; top of shine-.472; ring on head-.472; top side of ring-.470.

Distance from base to top of ring? The 470 right above the ring tells me the diameter is reasonable. Now I worry the counterbore is to deep.

Tom
I presume that means that the chamber was cut too deep and there is not enough surrounding the case head, thus the markings?

Is this whole things screwed up? Round loaded to max not even close to the lands. Clearly no support at the case head. I presume this means it goes back for repair. Wouldn't this be a big liability issue for Remington?

Holy balls, that seems like a lot of unsupported case. I would at the very least have it taken apart and measured. Weather or not you send it back to Remington is your choice. I would cut my losses and put a real barrel on it lol.

Tom
What's the real risk? Is there likely to be a serious failure or minor issues (short lived brass, inaccuracies, etc.)?

Put some tape on the front side of the bolt lugs .lf over three layers And the bolt closes it is chamber wrong Larry

It looks like a headspace problem to me. Either the chamber is too long or you are bumping the shoulder back too much when reloading. Do factory loads look the same way? The bullet distance to the lands isn't the measurement you are looking for, you want the bolt face to the shoulder datum. If you have a 9mm case, place it upside down over the neck of a fired case ans measure from the base of the rifle case to the top(actualy the bottom)of the 9mm. the do the same to a freshly resized case. If you are more than a couple thou different, either your chamber is too long or your reloads are too short. Try backing your sizing die off some and see if you can get closer to the fired case size. if not, it is most likely your chamber, and it is remingtons problem to fix.

As much as that isn't what I wanted to hear, I appreciate the input and will give Remington a call tomorrow.

Thank you for your input.

I just checked some factory Federal LC loads I fired. Same issue. Ring around the head. Same spot. More prominent on one side than the other.
