I have a new Remington 700 5R in .308. Had it out five times working on load development. From the very beginning, I noticed a ridge/ring around the case head just over 1/10" on the case. It's large enough to catch with your finger nail. No other signs of pressure. Brass has been loaded twice. Full-length sized both times. Loads are running at ~2700 fps. COL is 2.800. CCH BR2 primers. Powder charge doesn't matter but high end is 45.2g Varget.
None of my other guns do this and I'm wondering if I have an issue. I've read a lot about how poor of a job Remington does on their barrels and how oversized they make them to limit their factory liability, but this doesn't seem right. I measured my chamber and found it to be long, to say the least. If I load to maximum length with a 168 SMK, I still come up .037" short of touching the lands. What are your thoughts? Is this something to send to Remington to fix?
