March Scope

I am thinking about purchasing a March 36-55x52 for BR rifle I am having built. But I am not sure if the variable power is the way to go. I would like to hear what the pros and cons are compared to a fixed power by someone that owns one. Would also like to hear why a fixed power would be a better choice if in fact you think it is. Your opinions are appreciated.

Thanks, TimP

If that's the EP-Zoom scope, I would ask the Forum Boss about it. Last I heard from him, he was not very impressed with the technology. If you want a March (and hey, I own two), there are far better options in their lineup.

Tim

I have a March 10X60 on my BR gun. I love it. Some days I can use the 60, some 30, and some20.
It's great to be able to dial it to match conditions.

Yes it is the EP-Zoom scope. The far better options you are referring to are they the fixed or variable power. Starting to think a fixed 40 or 50 power may be my better choice.

what distance BR do you plan on shooting

100 and 200 yards

I agree with the others on the 10-60...I have seen times when you do need to go down on the power ring more often than you need to go up. I have shot as low as 16x before when conditions were horrible (with heat i mean). In the past usually a 16x, 24x, and 36x fixed was normal to see on firearms at 100/200yrd. BR matches but with todays good quality variables you can do all those in one scope.

Tim, in terms of their lineup, I think any of their other fixed or variable power scopes would be a better choice. I shoot F-Class and my personal scope is a 10-60x52 March. I think it's great at all ranges that I shoot (300 - 1000). For 100/200 BR, I couldn't give an informed opinion. I would think that at those ranges, fixed would be better, but I have no experience to back that up.

I shoot primarily 100/200 BR matches, and have 2 36-55 EPS scopes on different rifles. I think they are the best scope for BR in the March lineup. I had a fixed 50 power, and for some reason I found the optics of the EPS on 50 power to be clearer than the fixed 50 March. I generally run the EPS at around 48 power and find that works well for me.

Been shooting quite a bit with a 36-55X March. Nice controls. Just be aware that the eye relief changes rather dramatically from 36X to 55X. That can require you to change positions if you alternate between low power and high magnification. I also favor scopes that offer a +/- true diopter adjustment. The 36x-55x is versatile in that it is rated to focus all the way down to 10 yards.

Thanks to everone that has replied to my post so far I appreciate your opinions. Not sure what I am going to do yet decisions decisions.
