March scope quality

My brother is looking to purchase a high end high mag. scope for 800-1000yd shooting. He is thinking about a March 50 or 60x but is worried about the fact that the tube is only 30mm with a 52mm objective compared to other manufactures 34mm tube and 56mm objective etc. He currently uses a Zeiss Victory Diavari 6-24X56 and is looking for something with the same image/scope quality but with MUCH higher magnification. I guess the NF 12x42x56 is an option too but he likes being different.
Any suggestions or comments on the above would be helpful.
thanks

There are MANY more 30mm maintube scopes used in long range benchrest than 34mm maintubes. I'd guess that 30mm scopes outnumber the 34mm versions by at least ten to one. And I bet there are quite a few more 1' tube scopes used vs. 34mm scopes, for that matter...

The trick is to get a scope with enough internal elevation adjustment for the ballistics of the intended load, so you can shoot the desired distance without running out of 'up'. The 34mm tubes are WAY more commonplace in tactical type applications.

As to quality of March scopes, use the search function, on this and the Benchrest Central forums. Lots of discussion to read through.

If he might want a NF NXS in 12-42x56 with NP-R1 reticle, I have one in excellent, nearly new condition, that I'd sell for $250 less than what a new one would cost. Box, lens covers, manual, all included.

March makes a 10-60X zoom which is more than enough power for anything and it has plenty,72 moa) of internal adjustment.

Jer,

I think he'd be happy with the March 10x-60x, maybe by the next F-Class Match at Peru Tom will have his 36x-55x and Matt could take a look see at that. I'll stick with my Premier Boosted Leupolds, I'd love to have that extra power of the March but not the reciept hanging around for the wife to find.

By the way GREAT shooting on your whole family's part for your first F-Class outing, hope you'll come back Upstate again.

I'm an iron sights shooter and know very little about scopes. I can say do not get a super high power fixed magnification scope. A heavy mirage may make the scope unusable. Most F-class shooters I chat with seem to stay in the 24-36 range.

I say be like everybody else get a NF.

Just my 0.02

Thanks Mike for the comp. We had fun, we will most likely be back. Matt is building up a new gun $$$ and has his eye on some new scopes. I suggested March because i know he likes to spend money he does not have and i heard good things about them from the shot show reports. However, I don't like the fact that only one dealer sells them, kelby). For now I'll stick with my $899 Bushey 30x, it seemed to work just fine in Peru, even in the rain!!
see you soon
