This is a Rez puppy that was about 6 months old when she ran up to me in the forest when I was going to check a load at 100 yards. She sat on my foot then laid down and looked up at me. So I put her on the front seat and got in then she crawled over and put her head in my lap and fell asleep. She was skin and bones, covered in ticks with open wounds on her neck. She is now about 1 1/2 years old. Part Lab, Jack Russell and PitBull. No Varmint is safe on our property. She was about 5 miles from the Rez line and was eating anything she could find.

I started reading this thread several years ago intending on contributing. This was my beagle, Kooter Brown. Best rabbit hunter I've ever had, and I raised beagles for many years. He was one of a very few dogs I kept in the house. All I had to do was get out a long gun and he was ready to go. He would get very upset during deer season. Here he is laying between my and my wife's deer rifles. Not happy when he had to stay home. I miss him greatly but smile whenever I think about him and all the great hunts we had.

Bless you for saving her!

I think most people would have done the same thing or at least taken her to the no kill animal shelter. The animal shelters here are full of dogs from the reservation. The Vet told me they are the most trouble free strong dogs there are. Very rugged and self reliant. A lot of people up here adopt them. Thanks for your kind words.

After my hip replacement, this has been my therapy dog. "Poe" an Australian cattle dog.
We adopted him at the beginning of 2025. We walk every day about 45min to an hour. He likes to hang out with me while I'm reloading or bullet making.

Don't do dogs for fear they'll get out and get run over. Got 3 outside cats that don't even belong to me. VEREY car/road wise. They have taken up living at my house, Maybe because I feed them???
Open the back door and Tigger decides he's coming in the house. Pass thru to the front door, do the sticker thing on the door mat then outside. He got in the way and got stepped on. Guess he thought it was on purpose?? Tracked him down, we had a short conversation and all is well again. ;) ;)
Hello Kitty (real name Camao) in a love bug. AKA Two Tone. You tough him and he grabs your hand and won't let loose. He LOVES attention.
Every time I turn around, he's there so, Hello Kitty.
Did have a poodle dog for 18 years. He helped raise both of my daughters. He's planted out back with daffodils on top. They're coming up now.
No more inside animals, except me. ;)
Nothing wrong with a little "dog fix" once in a while. :):)
