Get in touch with those members who are sympathetic to your views, organize a meeting away from the club, then go in unison to the club meetings and orchestrate change. I can't do you any good from here in Michigan. I wish I could but I can't. I don't really care to read this thread much longer.

We had a election and ended up with the same results . This time I didn't start it . And the board member that are trying to fix it are new . Thanks go remind me I will refer them to the previous also . Larry

I love going to Manatee to shoot out to 600. Used to go every to every other weekend. Haven't been much this year due to moving and having my reloading center disrupted. Also started taking classes in machining and restoring an old South Bend Heavy 10. Hopefully I will get out there very soon but its disappointing to hear about all of the water. For me, I don't really care about the target stands but they can be a pain when there's wind. I'm just so glad there is a long range close to me that I'll pretty much accept any condition it's in without fuss. However, with the land that is there and the money in the bank, it's a shame its not top class. Jesse

How many gun clubs pay their President $50 K per year ? Anybody ? I think the salary positions at Manatee is the primary reason for the club problems.

Actually think it's more than that. $25 and hour. Five days a week. There are others on the payroll also. You need range officers and someone to direct them. The operation of the club is not inexpensive as structured. There are a whole lot of work and organization skills involved. It's a non-profit business and provides a living to some.

Common sense says that living is not something people want to give up.

Quick update: I'm a member, and volunteering to help at the Manatee Gun Club. Just wanted to let everyone know that our new management did take over, and changes are under way. We brought in the bulldozers and reworked the berms to meet NRA consultant's recommendations. New wooden target frames are up, so little chance of ricochet. Carts are all up to spec, club house cleaned up and nice. We run 100,200 and 300 yds on main line along with pistols @ 25. We have 600 yds for more challenge and competition on separate range that does not affect main line. All info on our website updated, please take a look. Summer hours July 5-Sept 30 are 7:00-3:00 for cooler, more stable air. Please consider giving us another try.

Yes, that is the case. It no longer exists.

Or is there a hold on shooting 1000yds till a solution to stray bullets can be put in place? Or has the current leadership given up on 1000yd shooting and it will never happen again? The range has been "rearranged" to the point that you cannot physically shoot beyond 300 yards on the main line. Berms are sky high now. The back 600 yard range is 630 to the berm where all the steel targets and target backers are.

Essentially, you can shoot 25, 100, 200, 300, and 630 and nothing else.

The "good old days" nearly shut the place down permanently. Too many rounds leaving the range.

Why were rounds leaving the range? Was it inadequate berms, was it errant shots or ricochets? WWCC years ago had a similar problem. After examination it was found that someone who wanted the range shut down had put a shot into a home or trailer from off the range.
