Man cave inside of shed...

There are many sawmills around where I live in Tennessee but in the last year or two our local power company (Tvec) has passed some kind of rule where they will not put electric on any house built with sawmill lumber I don’t understand the reason for this
Conspiracy....LoL. That’s sad really. I have bought much better lumber from local sawmills than HD or Lowe’s has ever had.

In NY where I live and build we have to use "graded" lumber to meet code. It's stamped and certified.
Typically prints will specify a minimum grade that is acceptable.

A few years back I wanted to install a new 200 amp service panel to my house. Doing the work myself, I asked the utility (SDGE) if they would unhook and rehook on a Saturday. They said yes, they'd be glad to repower as soon as I showed them the permit signed off by the inspector. "Permit? I said, isn't that between me and the city?" They explained that they have an agreement with the city.

So I've been divorced now for close to 15 years. My son is in college and my daughter is 17 and very low maintenance. Seems the entire downstairs is becoming a mancave....kindo nice.

I’m a commercial contractor by trade. I’m based out of Gilbert Arizona but work all over the southwest and Hawaii. The amount of building going on in and around Gilbert is crazy, reminds me of 2007 right before the bubble burst. 2008, 2009 and 2010 were hard years for those in the building trades in Arizona. I expect the same thing is coming again, just a matter of when. It truly is mind boggling how fast the old farmland and outskirts are being gobbled up by development. We have a lot of out of staters moving in which makes me glad I live three hours away in Snowflake but even lil sleepy Snowflake is growing faster than it ever has. This all equates to higher demand and higher prices of course,

Building in Hawaii is like being on another planet. We are starting a Job on the island of Molokai in June. Just the logistics to get a building package there is hard to deal with and I’m pretty sure the prices would put most people into cardiac arrest. They price of that package has doubled since it bid in November. There are many times in Maui and Oahu where you can’t buy a certain stick of lumber at any price.

Back in the early nineties I managed a lumber shop in remote Alaska and we bought most of our lumber out Washington, Summit lumber got most of our business. When I visited their shop I was able to secure a large amount of premium doug fir, not a knot in it. Some of the best lumber I’ve ever seen, haven’t seen anything like it since. I also learned that all the very best lumber they milled was bought and shipped to Japan, you couldn’t get a stick of it at any price. I’m sure if we knew how much lumber and sheet goods are being shipped overseas we would be disappointed.

Hoping to build a 40x64 shed that will have a 14x28 man cave/reloading room on the one side. It will be fully finished, with heat and air. Questions are:

Best options for a safe and security?
The dos and don’ts with regards to finishing?
Only in the brainstorming phase so all options open.

Thanks!
Many years back a noted high end gun dealer close to me (Jaqua's) built a new store. Before the store was built a large re-enforced concrete box was built with a single opening (I had no idea at the time what it was). The store was built around this box, I still had no idea what it was until I went inside and it became apparent. The big concrete box had a vault door attached to the opening, and this was their gun room.

My man cave/shop is attached to the house. There is a 4.5 ft. hallway attached to what used to be the back wall of house. So I can walk through mudroom of the house, down 3 steps into garage to attached hallway. There is a 36" steel door in the hallway leading into shop. I also have 48" steel door leading to outside. There is a 32" steel door to go in mancave. The hallway has 2 ducts from house ac unit so it's heated and cooled.

The rest of the addition is 1 room that's 14x24 where my lathes, drill press, tools (and some time this year milling machine) are. Room #2 is my man cave/ reloading room. It measures 12x24. The addition is all cinderblock with concrete and rebar in all of the holes. There is a 6 in cinderblock wall that separates the 2 rooms. Each room has a mini-split cassette unit hanging from the rafters. The mini splits also have ducts to upstairs attic space so it's all climate controlled.

There is a refrigerator, and bathroom in the garage. All of my mounted deer are in the mancave also. I've got a great wife, and she's happy all of it's not in the house. Ain't love grand.
