I have read a lot about going back into a Remington an oversized the threads are they not useable the way they come I don't think I have ever read about redoing the threads on a Winchester, Ruger, savage , mausers or any other commercial actions I guess they must be better quality threads just asking.

If your not set up to do it , either on lathe or mill , sell it and buy another .
Unless of course you plan on opening a few , the set up for accurate lathe work is like the one pictured by gene Poole . Not a easy or quick tool to make .

Well understated. I find 99/100 remington's don't need the threads reworked.

Main reason for rethreading would be out of alignment. The threads hold the barrel against the face of the action. Unless they are at a skew angle, or badly off center, they don't need to be changed. 9/10 machinists make threads too tight. Barrel threads should be relatively loose so the barrel can settle against the action.

I do run a 1 1/16-16 tap into them to clean out any burrs.

If you square up threads on a Remington action I was thinking the lug need to be opened up a little.
A Leaphart
If you go far enough the loose lug wont fit you went too far. Like carlsbad said you dont have to get crazy with them- just get em straight and use looser threads. Also knock the tops of your thread crest down and thatll help. I used a factory lug on a hunting rifle today. I turned a shelf about half as long as the lug is thick for it to set on snugly. I trued the threads good enough (it had the hourglass shape like all RR remingtons do once trued- cut some in the back then cut some in the front 180deg over) and the factory lug goes over the threads and barely touches. No need to open one up unless you went too far cutting tenon threads. If so get an aftermarket lug- should do that anyway
