Making an MDT Field Stock usable ! I'll show you how

Action arrived at Dealer today from the gentleman down in Alabama ..
Got the background check done and approved in 5 minutes ,,,,hope the atf gets my form 4's
approved next week it will have been 39 days ....for individual E file by then ...

So the action went on nicely , only dropped the ball bearing once taking the extractor out
during head spacing .. took her to the Go gauge, then snugged her up hand tight dropped in
the no go, it was gtg...but then I decided to take her to .002" instead of .004" the No go provides.

Out came the tape ...

I noticed full length Hornady dies for the 22 Creed were chambering a bit tight
Go gauge is smooth like butter , so I stoned the shell holder face a good bit
Seems to have set the shoulder back enough now ...

Then the ejector showed me she's weak and NOT doing the job ...
Just ordered a Kinney
SS-2401-2 Deluxe Savage Enhanced Extractor/Ejector Kit

Dropped an Arken EP5x25 on her with the VPR reticle ..
It rides on a 20 MOA base , not that I'll need it with this laser

After the epoxy sets up I'll rip her back apart and install the
Elftmann trigger and take the barrel my brothers nice new lathe
and cut a 5/8" 24 thread on the muzzle for the cans ...

Then barrel break in time ! The EABCO barrel is a hard chrome
moly steel and will require a good regiment the first 100 rds .

We shall see , I've never tried their barrels , but if all the 5 star
review son their site are legit , they look promising ,,,and have
many wildcats in stock ...

Power Pro 2000 MR at $300 each ...
I asked the guy how in the hell they have them ....would you believe an estate sale.
The guy dropped dead ,,,,and they scored these amongst plenty other stuff ...

I'm currently going to work hard and maybe this weekend go grab all 4
That will last me for a good long time ....My 22 Creeds , 6.5 Creeds and my 223 with 69
and over bullets .....

I'll start loads for this gal tomorrow...
probably gonna be superformance some Fed 210 , and Sierra 69 Gr TMK

worked on setting up my dies to the chamber lastnite and came to the realization that E Arthur Brown company EABCO has cut their 22 Creedmor barrel chambers too damn tight !

I have had to trim the neck down to .250" after seating the bullet that is the diameter just to
barely get the bolt to close ..

Saami has it at .257" and other prints .255" ....that get's my neck a bit too thin for my
liking and it's a PIA ...my PTG finish reamer should arrive today ..she's gonna get a new profile
hope that helps..

Currently the amount I have to remove is too much of a hair cut !

This build is quickly becoming a pain in the azz ....gonna be my last Savage ...
The MDT stock has some lil plastic sliding button that is to contour to the
bolt release armature from the sear at trigger ... Bottom release variation

It engages it and doesn't allow it to return fully forward to reset the trigger
trigger is stuck at rear ...I'll wait till the Elftmann arrives and start to trouble shoot
after that is installed as it changes various parameters ..

Cheap stuff really sucks ....lol ...I'll make it a nice rifle ,,but the amount of actual
fit and finish work is unbelievable today .....nobody seems to give a shit about
tolerances nor quality control ...

Will be interested in seeing this rifle done. I have the Elftman trigger in one of my rifles and love it.
I ordered a top bolt release sear and it is only available from one place , USPS lost it in the mail
even now after 3 weeks cannot track it ! I got pissed ...and sent back the elftman and ordered a Jard
complete trigger with the upper bolt release button..

will finally have this damned rifle done .....who knows when ??
I ordered the trigger 4 days ago from optics planet and just now see the damn thing has NOT even been processed yet and has an expected ship date of 7 12 24 WTF !!!

If Midway doesn't have it in stock you are screwed they are the only company that actually
gives a shit about shipping in any decent time frame ......sooo sick of all these BS companies

PTG sat on shit for 10 days after being paid that was in stock ....I had to email daily
to get them to get off their asses

I have 32lbs of

POWER PRO™ 2000-MR (MEDIUM RIFLE)

I bought locally
200 new brass from Alpha Munitions
1000 75 gr Hornady ELD Match

ready to go ...
ordered a barrel from Urbanrifleman for this as a back up
26" stainless .. 1-7 I'm going for laser ....yes Ill even thread that and
drop my new Maxim Defense PRS can on it or a AB Warthog....my
cans all were approved after 41 days on an individual form 4 ...

Is she gonna be a Loooong barreled rig ??? lol yup !
But I want speed.....

Update !!!

So I gave up on forming brass ..too much work and I'm busy
bought 400 alpha munitions brass...
Called up The Urbanrifleman and gave him a shot ....
Glad I did ...

He churned me out a 26" 1-7 barrel in just a few days it was my doorstep .

So after my sear was lost in the mail I gave up on the elftman trigger and sent
it back ..
Bought a Jard 12oz with the top bolt release lever already part of it ....
happy I did , that savage trigger assembly was a piece of shit ..

Bead blasted the barrel in the cab ...

Machined the receiver today and installed the Jard ..
set the head space on the new beautiful barrel and torqued everything down
after having to replace the front receiver hex screw with an over sized 5/16" x 24
original was weak and stripped out ....arghhh!
it's together ...

worked up some test rounds
Started with 38 grains of W760 and a 69 GR Hornady Match BTHP
fed 210 M primer

proceeded to fire 1st round at 2" low @100 yds
the next 3 were making me smile ....

This barrel is gonna be a barn burner ...
this kinda accuracy just getting started , tells me the Urbanrifleman does some damn fine work !
averaged 3275 fps with 20 fps sd ....not too shabby .....tomorrow I'll get a OAL established with one of these fired cases ....I drill it and tap it for my OAL gauge ...

Then we will play with some 75 GR ELD Match and some superformance .020" off the lands

I've had to install an upgrade kit to the extractor parts in the bolt already
so this Savage is definitely a big piece of shit from the factory ...

Trigger was garbage , bolt and extractor , garbage ....what's left ?
nothing ...

So although it'll be a decent rifle now,,,I'd definitely warn others

just buy a good action from the onset and build your rifle form there
factory rifles are crap ! you spend money and end up tossing all the
shit to upgrade it ...and lose your arse.....just build a custom from start.

Friends don't let friends buy Savages ....I've had to do everything to this ..
I have The Urbanrifleman spinning me up a similar barrel in 223 Ackley
to tear my Tikka Super Varmint apart , and it has 10 rounds down the pipe

Looks like it's going to be a shooter!

I like to take a brass cartridge that was fired in my chamber , then stick it in the lathe and drill and tap it 5/16" x 43 and use my OAL gauge to establish the OAL...
So I sacrificed an Alpha brass for the ritual...

Took 2 measurements with the Hornady 75 Gr ELD Match ...
this is why you take a couple ..they are never the same...

push it in fully , then lock it down tight and carefully use your Dewey Rod
to push it out of the chamber ....

I'll be seating the 75's at 2.100"

I want to use up this can of W760 I've had since 1995 before it gives up the ghost
I ended up bumping up to 40 Grains of W760
75 Gr ELD M seated at 2.100"
Fed 210 M primer
Alpha Munitions brass (new)

I'm averaging 3300 fps to 3350

It's more accurate than I am ....after locking down the turrets and zero stop
I thought I'd toss 3 more down range ...
First 2 were almost touching , then of course the anxiety kicked in and I pulled
it ....dohhh! she's a keeper ! looking forward to seeing what these 75's will
do to the chucks and yotes this week....
