making an identical f-open rifle...?

when attending BIG matches, do you go out with a backup rifle or simply go out with replacement parts and things to fix your current rifle?

thinking of building another identical rifle to the one i have, but that is A LOT of money.

i saw a rifle go down during a local match and he could not shoot the rest of the match and it would suck to have this happen during a big match.

I have both a long-range 284 and a mid range 6 dasher. I take both with me. The Dasher is fully capable of shooting at 1k, but will have more wind drift. Likewise, I can overkill a midrange match with the 284. They bath have the same receiver, so I can swap triggers, etc. if the need arises.

Talking F-Class I normally take two rifles, sometimes three if I have to shoot some short ranges. Many times I will alternate my rifles so I don't have to clean every day or as often. I also take some tools and a spare trigger or two. None of my rifles are identical, but since the headspace is set up the same I am able to shoot the same ammo in each of my main rifles, so I only take enough ammo to shoot the match.

The spare rifle must be handy , sighted in ,fouled , ready to go to do you any good if you suffer a breakdown during a relay. I only grab it as a last resort if I can't finish with what I started with. It's a desperate situation that I have been in a few times. Keeping chamber cleaning tools and a cleaning rod handy has saved me a few times. Switching rifles will only cost you a 9 if your well prepared, hopefully not but if you grab a cold clean rifle then you will pay the price of experience most likely.

I want to use the same action as my current rifle, which is a Bat M action. I am shooting a 284 Shehane. Would the rifles be that much different if I went with say a Bat MB action?
