making a new bullet

I think the danger of doing this is that there is a very good chance that sooner or later the core will be blown through the jacket as the bullet is propelled down the bore, then the next shot will be disastrous in some form. Partition bullets have the partition to keep the bullet sealed and together, FMJ bullets have the complete jacket to hold everything together, a cup and core bullet with the bottom of the cup cut off has no viable seal and very little structural integrity.

Maybe , but the original Barnes soft points were made on copper tubing with a pinpoint hole in the bullets base with the core exposed. I dont think there have been any reports of the core blowing through.
 
where would on turn to to acquire bullet making tools? I figure it would be a expensive enough en devour but it may just have enough merit in the Idea... I personaly would keep to the 7mm and 6.5 mm and .375 bullets as that is what I have in my flock and I wont be getting rid of any in any time .... can someone start a "go fund me" thing? yeah I see that as a no starter as well

Here is the Quickload data with 100 gr Sierra HP.

Note the COAL is the standard 1.750"... Longer COAL relieves some pressure as long as the bullet is not in the lands, and shorter COAL reduces case capacity and increases pressure a little.
Went with 24" bbl, a MAX pressure of 38,000 psi (QL shows Maximum pressure for this cartridge at 40,611 psi). Also used 107% max case fill which is just starting to compress the powder and minimum of 80% case fill.
There were many more powders on this list but I ignored them because they were too slow burning, not generating much pressure and giving very slow velocities.

wow this is great information!!! all I could find was from Load Data .com and it was just one load!!! this list really mixes things up quite a bit!! I am so grateful for this information!! so where can a guy get this software?

I'm sorry to inform you my Quickload version doesn't have CFE-BLK in the powder list. I'm not sure if the latest version has it.

thanks for the try!! its right next to 1680 so I am assuming similar results would just need to work up a ladder and see what it gets....
 
Corbins stuff wouldnt make very good p-dog bullets. Mr ulrich on here makes the real deal dies for making bullets right. He can set you up for success from the ground up and do it less than 10grand- and youll be able to make a bullet that you could sell
 
Well I would love to make my own bullets BUT I would rather fund someone like mr Shroeder in San Diego for my 7mm bullets for my 7x33 build,, he sells them at $48 per 100 ... other than that if I could build a bullet manufacturing cell I would have to hire a friend for the help I would need,,ohh and win the lottery!!

Like anything else, where theres a will theres a way. Its all in how bad you want it. You could be good at making bullets
 
0n a cast bullets forum there's a whole section on swaging... Go ahead and try it.. Vernon Speer started making swaged bullets after wwii because there were none available to handloaders. Fred Huntington started ROCK CHUCK BULLET SWAGE or ''RCBS'' company to produce bullet swaging tools.. NOTHING more satisfying than looking at a target shot or deer killed by a bullet YOU made.. The feeling is PRICELESS
 
Here is the Quickload data with 100 gr Sierra HP.

Note the COAL is the standard 1.750"... Longer COAL relieves some pressure as long as the bullet is not in the lands, and shorter COAL reduces case capacity and increases pressure a little.
Went with 24" bbl, a MAX pressure of 38,000 psi (QL shows Maximum pressure for this cartridge at 40,611 psi). Also used 107% max case fill which is just starting to compress the powder and minimum of 80% case fill.
There were many more powders on this list but I ignored them because they were too slow burning, not generating much pressure and giving very slow velocities.

I capped the max psi at 55,000. QL suggests MAX psi for the 7mmBR is 58,740 psi. So the QL data should be fairly safe from maximum.

I too found RN and semi-spitzers to be very accurate.
