Magnetospeed V3 or Two Box Chronograph

I'm in the market for a chronograph would you choose the Magnetospeed or Two Box chronograph? I read that Bryan Litz was sent a few Two Box units to try but never found the results anywhere.

Actually, neither . . . having an MS and a CED M2 I'd choose Labradar.

But restricted to your chosen two, it's a matter of which issues you'd prefer to deal with. Personally I have no interest in a chrono that must be set up beyond the bench on a cold range and where all shots need to be in a specific alignment in order to get comparable MVs. The advantage to the Twobox chrono appears to be less induced measurement variation which means the SDs will be closer to perfect even if the MVs are off from actual . . . assuming the shots you are comparing are fired at the same alignment vs the chrono.

The MagnetoSpeed sets up when the range is hot. If it can attach to your barrel it will yield very good results. The drawback is that for many barrels attaching the MS or attaching it slightly differently will change the POI, and some also say there is influence on group size. This often results in extra ammo being made up during load development to measure MVs.

Some feel the Labradar has its own issues, but they do not include any of the above.

Where I shoot the range goes cold every 20 minutes or so, so setting up a Two Box Chrono wouldn't be a problem. The videos I've seen look like it can be set up in about the same time as a conventional optical chronograph. However, it has one HUGE drawback for me. It will record pretty much everything that is supersonic. I really wanted to buy one, but I decided I couldn't deal with that problem.

On a range with 15 shooters it would be a nightmare for me to find my shots in a long list of MV's even if mine were somehow unique, and I'm not sure they would necessarily stand out very well. I really like the concept of a very wide separation in the two sensors. I reckon the Two Box Chrono would be the obvious choice for anyone with a private range. But for those who shoot at public ranges I can't see it as viable. Plus I don't like the idea that you can't interface the Two Box with a tablet or smart phone so that you can extract data in a digital format and easily get it into an Excel spreadsheet.

My concern with the Magnetospeed is the same as everyone else has; i.e. a significant weight at the end of the barrel. Plus I have concerns about a speed measuring device where the sensors are separated by only a few inches although I understand side-by-side tests with other chronographs typically show that the Magnetospeed is pretty good when it comes to accuracy.

the two box unit is marginally ok if everything you shoot is supersonic. You will have to deal with picking up the shots from other shooters.
The magneto speed is marginally ok if you have enough exposed barrels on everything for attaching it. You have to deal with shimming it for different barrel contours.
All the optical devices are better under the right conditions and some have kits to use electric lighting which really helps.
The Lab Radar is very good once you get the settings right and as long as you are using guns without muzzle attachments like a muffler. The Lab Radar will provide you with more data as it tracks the velocity for the total distance it can "see" the bullet.
I need to relace an old chronograph an I have decided that a Lab Radar will be best for me. I use a chronograph for pistols, shotguns and rifles. I know it will be "iffy" with 22 and under calibers but it seams to work with 223 and flat based bullets which is what I use. Once I get it and build a base, it will be out to the range to get it set up.

All my loads will be supersonic. No issues with picking up shots from others shots. Anytime I'm doing load development I have the range to myself. I just need the chronograph for load development for FTR.

Sounds like the Two Box will work just fine for me.
