Magneto speed

I got one for Xmas. It comes with some rubber spacers that I assume are to assist in attaching it to the barrel. If I use the bottom barrel spacer my Magneto won't work. Is this normal. I slip an aluminum rod in the barrel to verify clearance of the bullet. It's close, but still good. I have no complaints of the magneto. It does work and is much easier than a Chrony type. Just wondering.

Have you tried resetting the sensitivity? I use mine on the #1 setting which makes it more sensitive and it works fine on my bull barrel. I also use the thinnest spacer (I have the sport model so only have two spacers). No problems; I think if the MS is close to the bullet's path, within that 1/4 inch I think, it will pick it up. Good luck; the MS is a great tool and so easy to set up.

Different contour barrels require different spacer setups. A heavy palma requires thin/no spacers, a 1.25" barrel requires thick spacers. ...hence the "extras." Put the magneto too close and you shoot it, too far and it does not work. Use the rod to get the spacing just right.

I'm not sure on your set up procedure. This might help.

Do you have the 1/4" square rod that came with the kit? The rod is how you determine how many shims/spacers to use.

During set up pick a spacer or two looking for approximately 1/4" clearance from the bottom of the bore to the top of the bayonet flat.

Tighten the bayonet strap with spacers in place. Then place the 1/4" square rod on top of the bayonet lengthwise. The top of the metal rod should clear the bottom of the bore or be very close.

Double check your straps to make sure they are tight and verify that the rod is still below the bore.

Remove square rod, and continue set up.

This ensures proper spacing between the bayonet and the bore. It also ensures you will not shoot your bayonet.

If you still have trouble I'd call their CS. They are helpful.

There may be something else out of whack such as the sensitivity setting or positioning of the bayonet.
