Magneto Speed - Sport or V3?

XTR

F-TR obssessed shooting junkie
For doing load development, is the V3 worth the extra $$?

(getting something to replace my old Beta Chrony)

IMO, No. But that's my opinion; and I've owned both the Sport and the advanced models.
I currentloy use the Sport model exclusively.

Does anyone know what the sporter results look like in the cell phone with their adapter? I wasnt thrilled with the stock display compared to the V3

Download the app and you can see what it looks like. Before you buy the XFR, go on Magnetospeed's website and make sure your phine is compatible. The app is super basic and easy to use.

I checked out the instructions and see what you mean by simple. the screens are much better, more informative and intuitive than the 1970's display on the sporter with segmented leds.

I wonder if it can be used mounted on a front rest instead of the barrel?

This is kind of an old post, but I'm in the same position as the op. Any new thoughts on the V3 vs the Sporter. I have some experience with the Sporter and certainly don't want to spend the extra $$ if there is not a significant advantage.

Thanks in advance!

I had the Sporter, now I own the V3. The Sporter is a little cheesy in comparison. Either are better than a traditional chrono.

Thanks! Do you find the new V3 mounting system easier to use and holds the bayonet more stable than your old Sporter? That had been the biggest issue I've seen with the Sporter, beside changing group size of course, but I shoot at a public range so dealing with the interference of other shots would make the Lab Radar a real problem for me.

The mounting is better, the display is usable and the craftsmanship is nicer aver all. My Sporter actually broke. They were great with warranty, but I never unwrapped the replacement, just sold it and got the V3.

I'm using the Sporter currently, and will echo Delfuego's comments. The V3 is nicer both in build quality and use. I broke my Sporter too (cord connection to the receiver box came loose) and they had me sorted out and a replacement in my hands within days.

Not in a rush to upgrade, mainly because the Sporter gives me the velocity info I'm looking for with good accuracy.... and I'm a cheap bastard so I don't want to spend the extra $200. :)

The cord on the Sporter certainly seems to be a wrk link and is part of the reason for my question. Thanks!

It wasn't the cord, it was the receiver plug end on the box that broke. I'll confess there were a few times where I shot with the box dangling from the cord... probably not the best idea. :)
