Magneto Speed Chronograph.

I am contemplating sorting my 6PPC and 30BR brass by velocity. Fireform them, then use the second firing as the sorting Shot.

I have an Oehler 35, but it seems the Magneto Speed might be more accurate over changing light conditions.

Any thoughts On this.

I know Bart stated he uses this only on his 6BRA, but since you have to fire a 6 PPC twice anyway before it is ready to go to the line, why not garner some info.

Instead of using sun screens, can't you use a lamp lighting system like you would indoors to remove that lighting variation?

Otherwise, it sounds like an MS would be your best solution for your objective.

I use my Magneto Speed for load development and checking velocities when changing Powder Lots . Have compared it side by side to several Lab units , and the difference isn't enough to argue about .

My idea is it is a lot easier to use In this scenario.

I have a MS and LR , the MS checks velocities as good as anything but I tried working up loads with mine and then when I would take it off the rifle the loads wouldn’t shoot the same, poi shifts and group sizes changed. The LR doesn’t have those problems

Of course the MS will change POI , but I have no idea why it would change a "group size". I get very consistent "group sizes" with the MS attached . My normal POI is about 1 1/2" higher , and 3/4" left without the MS . The LR isn't connected physically to your barrel . The MS is , and it will change your barrel harmonics . If you are only checking velocities what is the issue ? You seem to be trying to accomplish several things at once , and I tried to respond to your initial question regarding velocity checking .

Use both. But when you use the MS put a piece of duct tape over the strap to help hold it in place. Otherwise it can slip and give you an occasional bad reading.

Couple of suggestions: don’t shoot just any load. Shoot one that the rifle is tuned for. That will give you tighter numbers. Remember as the day heats up the bullets will go faster.

my advice is buy the cheapest version and $10 extra for the heat shield and a few bucks for the plug to go wireless to your phone app. had both.
