Macular Degeneration and sight.

I've got two target scopes, one Nnightforce and one Leupold 45x45 with 1/8" dots. Due to my eye condition, I'm barely able to see the dot and definitely unable to see the fine crosshairs on the Leupold. Anyone have any ideas about what I might be able to do to help me shoot a little bit longer?

I have age related (dry) Macular Degeneration in my left eye but am right eye dominate. Talk to an Ophthalmologist about glasses for shooting. I shoot with my glasses and it helps some.

I have gone to thicker crosshairs, it helps quite a bit . I never thought I could be accurate without thin hairs and a dot , but it can be done.

I recently acquired two bullzeye optical booster's to try because of this very reason, but have not gotten to try them out yet. They seem to make the xhair's easier to see but time will tell.....;).

I have it or something similar in my right eye, now I shoot left handed. I think it was the best option...... jim

My father suffers from MD/wet and has very distorted macular vision so the center of his focus is a blur. He is 82 now and has shot rifles since he was a young child so it was tough for him to find that he could not see the central aim point on targets. He compensated by using the large gridded sight-in targets (the ones with the orange diamond in the center and thick vertical and horizontal lines intersecting at the center of the target. On the occasional range trip he lines the outer edges of the reticle cross hairs with the target 'cross hairs'. I've seen him punch nice .4" 3 shot groups with a 1958 Mod 70 .338WM. He then proceeded to drop a cow elk at 120yds freehand with the same rifle. The full story is that his friend/ranch owner had a red dot sight on a 7 rem mag and told him to use it. The first day he tried to find the dot on an elk's boiler room and couldn't see it. The next morning he used the .338 WM and aligned the cross hairs's extreme edges with the appropriate spots on the elk and dropped it DRT.

That's the way I was until I woke up on morning with wet AMD in my Dominant eye. It's a game changer. Thannks , I'll check with my doctor.

Thanks for responding. I''ve got a call in right now to Leupold to see if they can put a heavy cross hair in my 45x45. It has a fine cross hair but couldn't see them so I had an 1/8" dot added. Now it's too small. I'm shooting benchrest and am trying to get the smallest groups possible, but if I can't see the reticle, all bets are off. Thank you.

Thanks, I'll look into those!

Best of luck Steven, I hope Leupold can fix you up .

I know it is hard to accept but I was right eye dominate and lost the center vision from a fungus but it moved around but ended up in the middle. I did want to stope shooting so I retrained myself but shooting trap at local clubs and so I picked up a gun left handed. I sold my right handed rifles and built left handed ones and never looked back... jim

I have a similar condition to the OP, I get an injection into my right eyeball every couple months. I have lost clarity, and glasses or additional power does not help.
I have great difficulty seeing the dot. Last week I tried a scope lens cover with a hole with the area of 50% of the area of the objective lens. I got this tip from a post regarding mirage. It did help me a little, so maybe a trial will help the OP.
The worst part of this is that the degeneration destroys the receptor cells in the eye, and they do not regenerate, so you are left with a blurry/less sharp retina.
