Mack Bros EVO II Rem 700 Stock Fitment

I am currently starting a rifle build. The only components I know I am using are a Carbon Six barrel, Mack Bros EVO II action and a Trigger Tech trigger. I am kind of hung up on the stock.

Any EVO II owners out there that can tell me what kind of stock you are using for a Rem 700 SA? Grayboe is the only one I found that has an inlet specifically for the EVO II. I contacted KRG and MDT and those stocks will require modification.

Note - This is a short action for a 7mm-08 build, so I don't need suggestions or comments on going with another caliber.

I think AG composites and probably Mesa Precision (I think they are called Pure now) are good options for ya.

I cant help you with a stock brand but I can tell you what needs to be done to a 700 stock in general. The bolt notch needs to be opened up to fit, recoil lugmortise may need to be opened up a bit. Clearance for the trigger hanger, especially at the rear of the hanger and the rear of the port opening needs to be extended back to fit.

Just did a Choate with aluminum bedding block for an evo II single shot. Trigger hanger at the rear, bolt slot, loading port.

Many of my customers are using the Mack Bros.

The top one is a KRG Bravo and I bet it’ll just lay in it and bolt up…every Rem clone I’ve messed with has. Pretty affordable chassis too.

The Mack Bros. loading port is longer than a short 700. You can lengthen the port cut in a standard 700 length stock to match it. Or not.
The indexable lug is .250 thick so you need to open up the lug mortise in the stock. Some chassis stocks don't have a front wall of the lug mortise...so no work needed there.
The tang area normally needs to be relieved for clearance for the hanger screw. Be aware that the hanger and screw will limit the diameter of the rear pillar if you're putting pillars into a stock prior to bedding the barrelled action.
The side bolt release fits just above the stock line on a conventional stock...no work needed unless you decide to lower the receiver or the chassis stock is wonky in this area.
The EVO II needs a bit of work on most bolt notches but not much. The EVO I handle fit standard 700 notches fine.

All in all...pretty minimal work for the EVO II to drop in a 700 inlet.

Whatever stock you choose will need to be bedded for best accuracy and repeatability.

Hope this helps. -Al

Yes sir. It certainly does. Thank you. Carbon Six is going to be mating the barrel and sction for me. I may just send the stock as well and have them do all of the work and send me back a completed rifle.

This is the one I really want to go with. I have been looking at Grayboe and they are a true drop in and very nice stocks. However, this build is costly and all I want is something similar to the Magpul Hunter stock. However, I was told the Magpul inlet will not fit a Sendero profile barrel.

Magpul most definitely will take a Sendero/Rem Varmint. I’ll add that’s with room to spare for a longer than typical Sendero shank too. ~2.125” of shank length possible there. I’d also bet with a small notch at the rear of the bedding block the trigger hanger would fit. There’s probably plenty of room for the front of a hanger. The crossbar is a fair amount below the bottom of the action.

^^^ with a 90° bolt release the Magpul will need a small amount of clearance added. Doubtful that there would be any bolt handle issues with the large square opening.

The only hiccup I see with the Bravo from fitting is the front of the trigger hanger. They have a bolt up front for the trigger guard. That might be an issue. The rear of the block is cut very close to the rear action screw so I’d bet a hanger fits there. Everything else would be fine. The show line on that stock is below any bolt release and port plus a large square handle cut. The barrel channel will fit a cylinder barrel so just about anything with a standard OD fits. BAT shown for example.
