M14 questions

I remember back in 1966 in a far away place there were some M-14 that were semi-auto. One of the guys in our detachment figured out how to take some carton material, (C-Ration box lid) and insert the cardboard in the trigger area and make the rifle shoot full auto. Very hard to control and the full auto, "feature" would only last for maybe a full clip. We would load the clip with tracers and light up the early evening during weapons check. There was about 100 of us in the compound and it was easy to keep ourselves amused during quiet moments.
 
Springfield Armory made M14 semi-auto versions for match shooting!

They were all full auto, as soon as the selector was installed. Very simple and it worked off the bolt closing and tripping the rear hammer hooks…….. The ones we shot on paper were done over from the real ones. Springfield armory may have made some but the action would be different similar to the M1 receiver and could not be made full auto. Real M14's had a spring loaded retainer that held the roller bolt in and what the selector rotated in for full auto. …… jim
