M1 Carbine Scope Mount

This will be a somewhat odd question for this group, but I am not sure where else to ask.

Now I know the M1 carbine is not what any of us call an 'accurate shooter', however, my dad has one, his eyes aren't what they used to be, and has asked I look into putting a scope on it.

Wondering what folks would recommend for a decent rear scope mount that replaces the rear iron sight? I know there was some aluminum Chinese junk out there once upon a time. Curious if there is something better on the market these days.

For a scope, I plan on a compact low power, 1-4x Nikon, Vortex or Leupold. Nothing fancy.

They are out there. I had one years ago and if I remember right it was an S&K brand. It mounted where the rear site is. The one I had was fairly solid.

Have a machinist make one from a picatinny blank and mount it where the rear sight is and drill and tap the front ring. Dont worry about the historians if your dad wants it done make it happen

You can try the scopes, I suggest you to buy it in a local department store, if you really don't like it, then you can just return it to the store and buy another one.

Brownell has them in stock..... jim

Having same problem w/old eyes, I mounted a Millet red dot. Makes a great little plinker.
