I have my vortex mounted on my Winchester 43 for load development and accuracy testing. However I would like an older gloss 4x scope to be this rifle’s permanent companion. Any ideas of a quality gloss 4x power varmint scope? As a side note i ran out of space to mount my vortex further away for proper eye relief. The vortex has a 3.5inch eye relief so I’m thinking I’d like my next scope to have a three inch or so eye relief. Thanks for the input!

Ebay is loaded with older low power scopes. A lower power scope will have a larger eye relief. By larger I mean a back to front usable depth. And a wider side to side and up and down usable swet spot.

What caliber is your 43? I have a hornet with a 2.5X8 Leupold on but I have an older Leupold 2X7 Compact I am going to swap out. I actually want a little more power since I am usually shooting at small targets with it.

We are talking about fixed 4x correct?
The old compact Burris scopes have well over 4” of eye relief - I believe it’s slightly more than the standard size fullfield, but I may be wrong. These are often on eBay for $150.
On the other hand Leupold compact 4x has slightly less eye relief than a full size - if I remember right the compact is slightly under 4” and full size is mid 4”. Either of these seem to go for $200. There is often a misunderstanding of the compact 4x and everyone thinks they are all rimfire models with short parallax, but at one time the compact could be had as either a rimfire or normal scope.
The fixed 4x Nikon Monarch is a good scope and looks good, seems like eye relief is probably mid 3”. One that looks new will go for over $200, while one with some wear sold for under $100.
Redfield had a good 4x scope, but they are getting long in the tooth so I’d want to look through it before buying. These seem to sell for $125ish.
A Bushnell Banner 4x survived years on a .338 win mag, but eye relief was barely 3”. Now they aren’t worth more than $100 in new condition.
Then there is the Weaver k4, in either the older steel version, or the made in Japan version. I’ve seen a number of older k4’s with crappy optics, so it’s another I’d almost want to see it first hand. A lot of these go for under $100.
