LT30 For Varmints

I was given 3#'s of Accurate LT30 powder by a member of the local gun club and was curious as to whether or not anyone has used it in their varmint cartridges i.e 204, 222, 223? I know that it was intended as a BR powder but why would it work on sod poodles or song dogs. It's burn rate is similar to 4198, so it is on the fast end. Thanks in advance for any input

Western powder shows a max load in .222 with 50 gr Bullet as 20.1. In a .223 with a 55 gr bullet max is 32.1. I have had good results in a 6 PPC and read about good accuracy in .223

COhunter,

May I suggest doing some research for yourself on the actual max loads for LT 30 powder.

Not that you wouldn't have done it, just don't use that one.

You are correct. Everyone should research and test for themselves. However, if you follow this or any forum, that is not were most folks are at now days. That's why forums flourish. But if you read my post you will see I did state the information I gave was quoted from published Western Date. I do agree with your point 100%.

Good grief. Check your data! See page 30 of the loading guide.

You are almost 10 grains off the max for a .556 load with 55 grain bullet.

Jim, thanks for finding my dyslexic typing. 23 turned around will not fit, that for sure. Best to take the time and check for ones self.

I have researched the data that was provided by the guide by western powder and just curious about other members experience with the powder and maybe get a suggestion or 2, not rely on others to research for me

Both LT powders appear to be very consistent. I have been shooting 32 for several years in a number of benchrest cartridges with good results. I currently working with LT 30 in a 22PPC-.100 and a friend has been shooting it in a 6PPC and winning most of his matches. It is a little faster than LT 32 & N 133. The story is that it was developed to be similar to H4198. I would think you could use it as a replacement for 4198 and Rel 7. As always, start low and work up.
