I don't know what your field conditions are where you hunt. But, you could consider a 22-250 running a Barnes Triple Shock bullet or Nosler Partition.
Get yourself a 25-06. I have killed hundreds of white tail deer doing crop damage control for 15 years as well as being a deer hunter for 45 years. I have killed them with about everything between a stick and a 45-70. There is NOTHING that I have used that on average kills deer dead in their tracks with very little recoil like the 25-06 does with bullets between 100 and 117 grs. It shoots flat and is very accurate. Then again there is always the option of going to a "hand cannon" bolt action pistol or T/C Encore in a rifle caliber with a break. Check out the handgun hunting threads on line.
6br 1/8 twist & don't look back.A 6BR would also fit the bill with the least amount of recoil of all, in that range at least.

PS: With Lapua brass you can get almost 30 firings per case.
It just flat out works. Great accuracy and excellent factory ammo and plenty of power for deer and even elk in a pinch. Lapua is releasing brass for it the first part of next year.Ok 6.5 Creedmore fans, why this caliber? I see Browning makes it in the A Bolt.
Attached is a photo of the entrance hole into the rib cage of a medium size doe using the setup above. The average muzzle velocity on this load from the 23" barrel is 2977 fps. Bear in mind that there was no exit hole with the deer going 20 or 30 yards and folding . This is why you either love or hate the Berger HVLD's. When they talk about pencil in a few inches and explode, dumping all their energy, it's not entirely true. This was a 50 or 60 yard hit and apparently the bullet exploded upon hitting ribcage.6 Dasher, 8 twist, 105 Berger HVLD'S, Harrell's radial brake. Modified Kwik Klip detachable magazine, feeds like butter. Leopold VXR 4-12X50 3 dot illuminated reticle. Top dot to 200 yards, middle dot 300 yards, bottom dot 2 1/2" high @ 400 yards. Almost no recoil and will bust any whitetail deer in WI. Barrel is a Krieger #3 Sporter contour. Stocky's thumbhole stock, pillared and Devcon bedded. I like 243's but love this Dasher.
Good choice. My gunsmith friend shortened an M98 Mauser action and built a 7mmBR for his son. Shoots under 1moa and very little recoil. A very pleasant, accurate, low recoiling deer killer.A 6BR would also fit the bill with the least amount of recoil of all, in that range at least.

A young friend of mine has a 7 Rem mag that he is shooting 168 HVLD'S and he shot a smallish deer with it. The destruction is impressive. They aren't going far.I am trying the 7mm 168 HVLD this year. Took a quartering shot on a smallish doe. It went down like lightening hit it. I have been using Accubonds and usually have deer run about 30-50y. On this deer there was a large exit hole and extensive damage to the vitals. I remain interested and concerned to see what happens with an HVLD and hitting bones on a large buck. Doe was shot at 100y with MV of 2920fps. I am going to also hunt my 6.5L with 130 VLD's at about 2800 fps. My understanding is that the VLD Hunting bullets really shine at lower velocities.
When did a 7 mm R.E.M. Turn into a low recoil gun? Smile LarryA young friend of mine has a 7 Rem mag that he is shooting 168 HVLD'S and he shot a smallish deer with it. The destruction is impressive. They aren't going far.
I love brakes. Even put one on my short barreled Ruger Predator .223. Rifle is so light that I couldn't see hits on steel using 75 gr. Amaxes. No muzzle lift now, just like shooing a 22 rimfireI am not a fan of brakes but agree it is the way to go if you need to reduce recoil. A 6.5 Creedmoor or 260 would be very low recoil.
