Lots of Varget and H4831SC in Mitchell, SD

I stopped in at Cabelas in Mitchell, SD to see what they had on the way through Friday afternoon. They had no Varget, but the little sports store across the street from them had an unbelievable amount of Varget and H4831SC one pounders. They had quite a pile of 8 pounders, too, but I forgot to see what all was in there so I don't know if there was any Varget. This little store had over 10 times the powder that was available at Cabelas. They had a lot more of all primers, too, but not much in the way of bullets.

As soon as I read the post, I jumped in the car and headed north. I live in Georgia and I am currently in Tennessee. Can anybody send directions for Mitchell, SD. I am assuming that SD is the abbreviation for South Dakota and not standard deviation.

Thanks - Dennis L

Stop on HWY 70 and pick me up just west of St Louis, I will ride with you--I will have the directions.........

I have purchased from that store several times in the past. It is a little hard to find. It is north of I90, cross the RR tracks. Not sure of exact directions. I do know how to find it when I am in Mitchell. It is south of the Corn Palace. Sorry I can't be more specific.

It is very easy to find. Just find Cabelas and it is right across the street. I believe the exit is 332 off I90. There are signs on I90 for Cabelas. And it is SOUTH of I90. Coming from the West you will see it on your right just before you get to the exit. Coming from the East you won't be able to see it until you are almost there. Get off at the exit and turn right at the first stoplight South of the freeway and it is to the West about 1/4 mile.

Alright, I passed the Corn Palace and crossed over the railroad tracks. Got hungry and stopped at Bob Evans for dinner. The waitress told me I was in Kentucky. Back in the car and heading north again. Keep those directions coming. South Dakota can't be far off. Saw a bunch of bikers at Bob Evans heading to Sturgis.

You don't get away from home much, do you? ;D ;D

Good news, bad news.........

Made it to Ohio and I thought a slight detour to Camp Perry was in order. After all, if you are going to South Dakota, how can anything really be considered out of the way? Well, drove in to Perry and unloaded all my gear in time for registration and first relay. I suppose you know the bad news. Some Ohio Guardsman informed me that the last relay was fired a month ago!! Spending the night in a hut and will be back on the road tomorrow morning. I can just smell that Varget now. Row after row stocked right up to the ceiling. The U-Haul is going to be real handy.

You know guys, I get the feeling Dennis didn't believe it! LOL I'm sure some of you must have called them and confirmed they have it by now.

No kidding, they must have had 100 lbs of varget on that shelf. The place looked like a powder dealer at one of the big gun shows before they all got sold out. I might regret not grabbing 10 pounds, but so far I've been able to find it in Michigan with a little patience.

$xforfun -

I'll check all the lot numbers when I get there. So, continuing the story......
Woke this morning and did physical training with the Guard and then KP duty in the mess hall to pay for my breakfast. Coffee really bad. Said goodbye to Camp Perry and stopped at Starbucks for a mocha frappe grande and then headed out. Should be in Milwaukee at lunchtime for brats and a cold beer. GPS isn't working, but the compass indicator in the rear view mirror says N. Will need directions soon. Haven't seen any road signs for Mitchell, SD.

Dennis L still on the road
