Lot-to-Lot Uniformity for H4350?

Can anyone attest lot-to-lot uniformity for H4350?

I'm wondering if I need to test H4350 from a new lot.

Or just load and shoot.

Best,

I've found a difference of .2 - .4 grains between lots when using 40.9 on an old lot, had to bump it to 41.2 grains to get same velocities for 1000yd br work.

H4350 is, like all powders, an organic compound. They all vary a little from lot to lot, and it's always worth checking to make sure the performance hasn't changed to an unacceptable level. The usually won't, but I've seen some problems on occasion. Not specifically to Hodgdon powders or 4350, but ALL of them. This is just one more argumetn of buying powder in as large a quantity as possible, to avoid such interruptions.

Dittos to Kevin's post - every powder I've ever used will vary somewhat from lot to lot. It's nearly always apparent over the chronograph, even with the relatively small charges used in handgun loads. You might figure you can get away with changing lots without testing if your loads are nowhere near max, but then again, some powders are notorious for very large lot-to-lot variations, notably surplus military powders, both spherical & extruded), so it's best to make a habit of using a chronograph during load development, to keep good load data records, and to test each new lot so you KNOW where you're at.

RBD,

I just ran out of my old lot of H4350, and just finished running a test group of my new lot a couple weeks ago.

My experience was nearly identical to Tiguy, and the chronograph proved it.

Same experience as the other guys. Just changed lots of Varget and had to back off .3grains in 6BR. The new Lot was faster than the old lot.

Be safe check it first.

Finally had a chance to chrony the new H4350.

I'd loaded primarily hotter, as I expected the new lot to be slower.

Wrong guess.

My old load was 39.4 gr.

To achieve the same velocities I'll have to load the new lot at 38.9 gr.

Live and learn.

Just hope I didn't blow too many primer pockets.
