Check Richards Microfit stocks. They offer a Howa 1500 short action in a benchrest style. If you are not familiar, they do 96% fitted stocks that you finish. I have done 2 of them now and they have come out pretty nice. The prices are pretty reasonable too.I'm looking for a used benchrest style stock for a S&W or Howa 1500 (short action) rifle. Stock doesn't have to be beautiful, just functional. If someone has a stock that will work, please let me know.
If you think that's excessive, order a McMillan stock that has to be made up. You'll begin to think 2-3 months ain't too bad.I just got one of their benchrest stocks for a savage single shot about a month ago. The stock is nice, but the leadtime was about two months to three months.

Very true, particularly fiberglass stocks. Once you cut & fill, then bed, the paint will make it all look alike. I have done the same with wood (except no paint) and of course doesn't look as good. I recently made a very early Shilen (round action, 2 digit serial number) fit a Rem. 40X stock (no stocks available for this action). Had to add several pieces around and behind the tang, but after staining it dark it not only works, but doesn't look bad -- not much different than a laminated stock. If looks are not a prerequisite, you can remold most any stock to fit your action.
