Looking for reviews on the Leupold VX6 scopes

Hello
Looking for opinions on the vx6 scopes. Specifically the 3-18. Been looking for a lightweight hunter for awhile. With the TMOA reticle and option for exposed elevation turret this looks pretty good

Been shooting mainly NF scopes. But would like to find something a bit lighter. But it has to track. I dial mainly for elevation. I heard the adjustment feels a bit "mushy"

Lots of mechanical reviews on the mark 6, which scores pretty high, but nothing on the vx6. Would like to hear from folks who have used them.

I'm interested in the same thing. I would like to hear from people that have the vx6 and use the dials at long range. I did call leupold last week and emailed 2 weeks earlier about this. Both answers I got said that the vx6 dials are just as reliable as the mark 4 (I have both mark 4 and nightforce) so my next question is why would anyone buy the mark 4?

I have a 3x18 V6 TMOA I haven't mounted up yet. I have 2 NF NSX's and a Benchrest and the glass seems very comparable in a side by side comparison. The Leupold clicks are a little finer/closer together and aren't as positive as the NF but they are definitely there. There is absolutely no problem feeling and counting clicks. I need to get it mounted up on something and give it a real test drive but so far it seems like a nice piece of glass.

I told my buddy not to get one but he did! wouldn't track right and couldn't get it sighted in AO sloppy. shot 2in left @ 100yds moved it 8 clicks shot in same hole 8 more in same hole 2 more moved 2in right. we sent it to factory got it back same thing. sent it back same thing! thank god he had got it from cabelas and they took it back.

I have the 4x24x52 TMOA and so far its great, tracks very well and optics are on par with other scopes in or above the price range. I have no complaints at all and if it continues to do well I will buy another soon ;D

May give one a try, I'd pick up the mark 6 if they had a moa option. All my other scopes are moa and I know I can get used to a mil scope but want to keep things standard. Was hpong NF would come around with better offerings. Been hoping for a 3-15 or so compact. May wait to see what new offerings come in 2016 too

If you have the capped dials with the plastic knobs under the "clicks" won't feel like clicks at all. I was very disappointed when I first got mine. I changed to the metal CDS dial in MOA and it is not as mushy but not as positive as many others and that is my biggest criticism, it takes a little getting used to. Glass is comparable to my NXS, tracks true, and is lighter than most making it a good hunting scope. Power knob is very stiff on both the 4-24 & the 3-18 , I'll get one of these when it bothers me enough.

I have also had the NF SHV in hand as well as the vortex hs-t. Both were and maybe still be contenders. The shv, damn, not sure what they were thinking with the 56mm bell. You did market is as more of a hunting scope?? Turrets are mushy too, if you are looking for nxs positive clicks, not here. Glass was great though

Hs-t. Awsome autible clicks and very positive. Much more like a nxs than the shv. Much smaller package. And lighter. Glass is good.

Would love to lock all three in a mechanical vise and test for function. Have my doubts on the leupold review above...lots of haters and lovers of leupolds out there.

I have a VX-6 but it is a 1-6 power. It has capped turrets and I do not dial with it, as it has the CMR-2 reticle with holdovers. The adjustments seemed to track just fine while sighting in, which took only a few rounds. They are firm but don't have a super-defined "click," and the knob has a small amount of hysteresis.
It is a great scope optically, that is lightweight and holds zero. Short of playing with one in person it is tough to say if you would be happy the turrets.

tagging in .

I'd like to get a 2 - 12 . I want it for a fast handling hunting rifle . I'd like to stay away from the side focus or I'd be thinking of the 3 - 18 too .

I was at the range one day and a guy came with a 3 - 18 . he was going to sight it in . I looked through it a couple of times , the glass looked real good to me . I wish I had one of my nxs scopes along to compare side by side .

I'm not aware of any vx-6 with an adj obj , as mentioned in a post above .

I have a VX-6 7-42x56 with the TMOA plus reticle. I have always been a Leupold guy but I'll be honest and tell ya if what they did doesn't makes sense. In my opinion, the glass is comparable to other high end scopes. The clicks are not as positive as my VX-3 8.5-25x50, but they are positive clicks. Meaning that you can feel them but barely hear them. It tracks well and IS repeatable. While groundhog hunting, I could dial from 500 yards to 750 or 1100 and back and it would be there when I shot. What doesn't make sense is that you pay a lot for this scope and only get an ill fitting neoprene bikini scope cover with it. To me that is stupid. For the money, I think you should get a sunshade too. The other thing that I don't like is the fast focus eye piece. It works well, but isn't necessary to me. I never had trouble setting my focus and locking it down in the past. Now it is easy to move the eyepiece, which means I have to check it for myself all the time. On top of that I like to use Butler creek scope covers. You can close them quick if it is dusty or raining and open them quick. You can't put a Butler Creek cover on the eye piece because of how it is shaped and it moves. Just a pet peeve of mine. I think it is a good scope and I would buy another one, but the lack of good scope covers for it annoys me.
I hope this helps.

I handled one today at a local shop. Glass is Awsome. I'm not going to get over the turrets. I'm sure they say what they do and are accurate....but dang. They really are soft, going to be a deal killer for me. But, the 2-12 has my attention for a non-dial point and shoot scope.

I have had a VX6 4-24 52 with illuminated varmint reticle for about one year. No problems with it. I shoot prairie dogs out to 300 yds. I did Brian Litz's tall target test for correction factor on tracking. I think nearly any scope will need slight correction factors for tracking if shooting for precision.

I had the VX6 in the 3-18x42 when they first came out..Boone&Crockett reticle . I liked it tracked great I even shot it on a 6 Dasher in some groundhog matches out to 500 meters. Had it on I think three or four different rifles . Optic's were great I did not like that B&C reticle . A friend of mines dad like it so much he bought one. I sold it and now have the VX6 4-24x52 tmoa I like it very well. I also have a Nightforce SHV 5-20x56 hunting in poor conditions bad light I favor the Nightforce. But the Leupold tracks well, clicks are not what you would feel on a NXS but they are ok. The 3-18 is a great scope if I had one in the tmoa I might have never sold it.
